Is Boxster 986 actually best car for the usual /o/ lurker/car enthusiast?

> outhandles S2000, BMW Z4, FRS
> cost below 10k
> porsche badge
> has 2 trunks, so more DD usability than usual "sport cars"
> non-manlets can fit unlike a miata
> tfw no gf, no need for more than 2 seats
> no useless infotaiment technology
> it's basically a good usable powerful non-toy miata

This car is cursed. It's the only Porsche I won't drive because I don't wanna die like James Dean.
>>
Cayman is better
>>
I have an old 2000 boxster, car does eat corners like a boss. I do not like the powerband though. (Slow)

Picked it up for 9k with 48k miles.

Maintenance is kind of annoying and you have to remove all sorts of liners and partial top to get to anything with the belt, manifold, aos, etc.

Driving the vehicle will make you want to get a higher end porsche.

Still a head turner car despite being old and cheap.

There are no fucking cup holders!

Rear tires last 10 - 15k miles, cannot rotate tires.

People fear IMS bearing failing on early porsche boxsters (if it fails the entire engine needs to be replaced) you can get an IMS bearing upgrade done for around 1.5k.

Soft tops suck of you live in cold climates, vinyl windows become like hard plastic and crack.

Anyone want pictures or have questions, feel free to ask.

Thanks Lord Satan...have a uh...merry xmas?

>People fear IMS bearing failing
At this point a lot of them have already been replaced or they are likely not going to fail since they would have already.
>>
>>14028666
Thx for the review. What about a hard top? Is the car loud inside, does it squeak with the top on? How tall are you and how do you fit?
>>
>>14028596
Wat?
>>14028604
Sure, but expensive too. Also cayman looks weird to me, it's just too close to 911 without being 911. But I bet it's a good drive.
>>
>>14028505
S2000 still better.
>>
>>14028666

The car is relatively quite. I've seen a few with aftermarket exhaust and they sound nice.

The top does not squeak, fits secured. I am 5'7" tall, my field of view is fine within the car. A friend of mine who is 6', vision was hindered from the top windshield. Seats have decent adjustments for how small the car is (change the depth of seating)

Enjoy your repair and maintenance bills.

Porsche badge comes with Porsche shekels.

>literally porsche tier maintenance

>>
>>14028505

You dont need more than two seats but you need more than one trunk?
>>
>>14029727
have you seen a miata trunk? you cant even put groceries in it. most convertible trunks are like that, because of the folding roof and stuff. by offering a trunk in the front, boxster is a bit more practical.

that interior looks shittier than NB's
what the fuck porsche
>>
>>14029745
The literally only nice thing here is the shifter. Otherwise enjoy your miniature car with miniature seats and miniature interior.
>>
>>14029745
Oh it's a super shitty interior.
I drove one in highschool.
>>
>>14028898
At least you wouldn't be a bus rider.

Must be nice sucking your parents teet

944 is better (especially s2 cabriolet)
easier to work on
Rarer
about same price for nice one
>>
>>14028505
These drive nice but kind of slow. My coworker had one for a while. It just doesn't feel like a sports car when you hit the gas
>>
>>14028505
A cockster? Hell naw, the Cayman is better. Stiffer chassis and less gay jokes.
>>
>>14030483
>not only rare, but pretty much impossible to find
in a decent shape
>even more maintenance
>parts are expensive as fuck and hard to find

Fucking genius.
>>
Would rather get an S2000
>>
>>14030757
>less gay jokes
>coulda had a cockster but i got a porch gaymen as i like it stiff
>>
>>14029688
>this is what thick normie casuals actually believe
>>
>>14030828
That's right, even normies know this.

>teach cousin how to drive a manual
>see this pos and tell her to overtake it
>she gets curious what car is it because she wanted to buy a cheap convertible
>"wait, that's a porsche? i thought they were expensive cars"

When even a girl who don't know shit about cars can tell you know it's fucked.
>>
>>14030918
She didn't know that until you told her the price. And you still need money to own one.
What were you driving?
>>
>>14030918
the fact that people like your idiot cousin don't like it just makes it better
>>
>>14030999
She got curious in the first place because it looked to her like it's a car she could afford.

>>14031026
Where did i said she didn't like it you fucking retard? She actually wanted to to buy it. Obviously i talked her out of it because i'm a good and caring cousin.
>>
That car is faster than all non turbo 911s of the generations before it.

So it gets a tuna
>>
An S2000 is better in literally every way. What makes you think a 986 would out handle one anyway?
>>
>>14031112
Uhh because it fucking does?
>>
>>14031112
just because it's not a scene taxed meem car doesn't mean it's not good
it shit over everything in it's class back when
>>
>>14031112
Because it's a great mid-engined sports car. Porsche has some great engineers, they know how to make a car handle well.
>>
>>14031118
Nice reasoning you got there pal. There is a reason why the s2k is one of the most praised cars of all time. The only problem is the rice tax on them now but you can still find a nice ap1 for 10k that will outrun anything on the toegay.
>>
>>14030757
>less gay jokes
>turn one letter to g and it spells it out
Good one.

That being said, the Cayman is indeed superior.
Also, no ugly 986 / 996 headlights.
>>
>>14028783
I've driven my dad's 04' S.

the hardtop doesn't squeak or rattle at all, but you can hear it flexing when going over large humps and so on, it's very subtle.

something
>>14029542
forgot to mention is that these cars have a plastic rear window, which has a tendancy to eat shit and crack or fade, or even bend awkwardly and damage itself if you own a hardtop and rarely take it off. (the rear window is a nightmare to replace)

also IMS failures are common with these cars.
>>
>>14028505
This has to be bait.
>>
Either way I'd rather have an S2k... oh wait, I already do.
>>
>>14031982
I'm jelly, I really want one. That gem of an engine. I hope Honda gets back to its roots.
