Poorfag looking to motorcycle here

What can I get for ~$2k as far as beginner bikes?

I really like the way adventure and dual-sport bikes look but it seems like most go for at least $5k.
>>
>>14025962
'88-'07 Ninja 250, GS500's etc, probably old dualsports as well.

Look at your local Craigslist/Gumtree equivalent and find out.

Keep an eye out for 2007 and older KLR 650

During off season I've seen them at 2200 or less. I'm riding one for my first bike and it's been great, just a little tall and Heavy so you should be 5'11" or taller and have some lower body/core strength

Also keep an eye out for sv650, gs500 and if you want a cruiser shadow 750 or other Japanese 750 or higher but keep it under 1000 if possible

13 year olds ride dirt bikes... you just lean you arse over the side of the seat so your foot can touch the ground if you are a short shit.
>>
>>14026028
Fwiw I'm 5'9" Manlet status but I have it on lowering links and a low seat, I can flat foot it pretty decently on most roads but it's not 100% comfortable on uneven roads or yawed inclines.
That being said I backpacked a lot and have a lot of core and leg muscle so I can hold her up pretty easy when she gets wonky
>>
>>14026028
You also don't need pectoral muscles to keep a bike up. If you can squat 220 you can pick up almost any bike

older 250-350cc dual sports tend to go for that in alright condition. I got my XL250s for 1200 bucks and all it needed was the carb gone through. Thing runs like a top now after fiddling with it and having a mechanic check it out. Good bikes to look for are DR350's, XL250's, XL500's, TW200's, and if you're lucky you might find an older model XR650L or DR650 or KLR650 for that price.

Dual sports are great bikes so they tend to hold their value. You're gonna have to do some digging on a tight budget and probably wrench on whatever you find a bit to get it in satisfactory condition.

I used to own a 50cc Yamaha LB3 'till it got stolen, now looking at getting a bike license on top of the regular driving license I have. Since we have three different bike driving licenses in Germany and my only experience has been with a 50cc, should I aim lower (think used 125cc Varadero) or go straight for a V-Strom or Versys 650? I'm looking at something fun that doesn't try to kill me but lets me enjoy views, roads and life instead.

Any advice for getting over my crippling fear of riding?

I did my msf course summer of 2012, bought a bike, rode it a few times around the block, low sided at a very low speed making a right hand turn from a stop, ride the bike home and haven't ridden it since. I literally dread even looking at the bike, gives me such a feeling of failure. I should also mention I live downtown Philly and the amount of traffic freaks me the fuck out. Oh, and also no friends to show me the ropes

Sleeping pattern is ass backwards because of night shifts. I'm looking over amazon and buying random shit. Buying one of those stupid reindeer kits for my bike, waterproof overtrousers to keep my legs dry and a little warmer when commuting, another bike cover for my project bike, bullet proof casio watch to stick on my handle bars and a balaclava. Probably find a few other things I don't need before I'm ready to hit the check out. Don't really have the money to be buying random shit but I'm quite bored.

No need to get antsy about it. A CB400SF weighs what, 200kg wet and makes something like 53hp?

It was a rebuilt MC22 weighing around 155kg wet and making 46hp. I only weighed 58kg at the time and we had an FZ6N sitting in front of it to cut the wind resistance right down.

Maybe he just wants knives and indian artefacts. Who knows.

I just can't see a 250 reaching 220, heck my ktm 450 only does 180kmh with a 14 front and 42 rear sprocket and that has 52bhp and only weighs 110kg.
You must have worked that engine bloody hard if it did do 220 lol, or changed the gear ratio in the gear box because if im not mistaken a 15 tooth front sprocket won't fit on the 250 or does it?

Don't underestimate the value of slip streaming. It struggled to push 200 by itself.

Most of the top end had been done and it got up to around 19,000rpm on the straight away. I was using a 17 front and 52 rear. New ones had gone on the morning we did it. The old ones were fucked.

We had a two stroke 250 go faster than that later on. Forget what it got up to, but it was ridiculous, 240 or 250. That thing used to blow it's top every 2000km or so though.

That's a very good point. I'd probably pay like $40 to stash it in a storage unit for a month or see if I can pay a biker dude I know to keep it at his.
I'd still need to get it rego'd to be able to park it in the motorcycle parking outside the halls here.
>>
>>14027248
The 2 smoker does not surprise me at all, they made those things go hard lol, and sounds about right they were generally used as race bikes.
>>
>>14027307
That one was a race bike, hence why it blows up all the time.

Don't underestimate MC22s though. The golden years are 91-93, after that they got neutered. The problem is most of the ones around have been thrashed and are about to die.

Good examples go hard though. I'll get some footage when that one is back together (won't be for awhile). Need a new front end for it, might need a frame too, haven't gotten that far.

Won't be a big deal either way. I should be able to get a donor bike for $200-300 without much issue and the only thing I want to keep it the engine and battery.
>>
>>14027269

>>
>>14027488
>anything good or is it just like mashed up food eaten through a straw?
I prep it all myself so it varies between great but small meals and mashed calories. Depends on how much energy I have and how much I care.

>>14027493
Weird isn't it? I'm about four months in now. They're not sure if I'll ever get it back.

>>14027567
91-93 are 45-46hp, 94 onwards are 40hp. If you do a full rebuild and put the time into tuning you can get them to 50hp if you're patient. Mine was 46-47hp--which is great if you consider it was a twenty two year old engine.

The gear driven cams sound wicked too.

The internals are bullet proof but basically this >>14027579 it won't handle the pressure for long.

>>14027586
You probably wouldn't get that much. You wouldn't be able to run much pressure without doing a ton of work to the fueling. I've never seen a working EFI MC22, seen a few half finished examples though.

The moment you wanted to cool the turbo you'd have to plumb it to be blow-through and it'd get heavy and complicated really fast.

May as well go two-stroke if you want 90hp. A KR-1S could make that if you were patient and had deep pockets.

This one wasn't mine, but it's making similar sort of power.

You just replace letting the throttle off with using the rear brake, by all rights you should be using the rear brake on a 4 stroke as well, that is how you go past the balance point and keep a willie going for longer than just the rev range, it is also how you change gears without flipping the bike while doing a willie.

2 years of racing tells me it is at 75 hours and he is selling it to buy a 2015 bike instead of rebuilding the 2013 bike.

Morning chaps.

I've got to ride in a fair bit of rain today, anybody know any good ways to give a visor a sort of hydrophobic coating? Misting isn't a problem as I've got pinlock but something to get the rain to bead off would be lovely.

You don't want an RM250 they are shit bikes, you have to spend a lot of money on them before they are nice bikes to ride (Which is why they are the cheapest stock bike from the factory) A KTM for an example comes stock with all the best suspension/brakes/exhausts etc so you can race them out of the crate so to speak.

What about a 2001 CR250?
This one is in great condition and the buyer seems honest, half an hour away from you $1875.

The problem with two stroke for MX is you can only use half the capacity of a four, negating their benefits.
>>
>>14028003
buyer lol... seller seems honest* (he posted pics of literally every part of the bike) plus he is close to you, if something goes wrong you can take the bike back and make him fix it by law (atleast you can do that here)

Nah they changed that rule, 150cc 2 strokes race 250cc 4 strokes now. pic related is the 2015 ktm150SX which is currently being rated as one of the best MX bikes you can buy for that range due to its light weight.
