Will electric cars with manual transmissions be a thing in the future?

Yes, I do now how the electric motor works--no need for gears. But will auto makers offer them as a comfort?

Luigi unrelated.

I think you're confused

I'd buy one over an automatic.
>>
>>14011413
No, and no need for a transmission in an EV so why bother?

The Tesla Model S has a 2 speed automatic gearbox.
>>
>>14011471
No, it's a single fixed gear.

>>14011413
When it comes to conversions, having a transmission is probably more common than not. But for production cars, I don't see it happening. Not only because it's not necessary but because if you really focus on making a fast enthusiast focused electric car then 2-4 direct drive motors to each wheel > one mated to a gearbox.

Some electric motorcycles have manual gearboxes
>>
>no need for gears
But gears can benefit an electric motor.
>>
>>14011673
The Brammo RR does but it's largely considered unnecessary. Zeroes don't and I don't think any of the real speed machines do either.
>>
>>14011471
No. it's a sinngle gear. Electric motors have torque out the ass so you don't really need reduction gears

I got bad news for you boy
>>
They have no need to offer one. The torque is constant, there is no noise, and it would just add weight not to mention pretty tricky to implement anyways.

Sorry, the Tesla Roadster has a 2 speed automatic transmission.
>>
You'd be lucky to find a manual that can handle the tourqe without emptying your wallet. There is an eletric E36. The thing is strapped to a power glide and still broke the tranny. The instant tourqe shock is just to much.

Just curious, but wouldn't better gear ratios mean better lasting battery life?
>>
>>14011899
>Single speed BorgWarner fixed gear (8.27:1 ratio)
Magna 2-speed transmissions were used on early cars but they were locked into 2nd gear and replaced under warranty
>>
Do automakers have kerosene lamps and starter cranks as options?
>>
>>14011931
hmm I guess, but it would also mean more weight and more friction between the motor and the wheel, so it would need more energy anyways.
>>
Crz is the closest we get :/
>>
i'd sure like them to be, a big problem will be all that torque.

however, they can't stall, which is nice
