So, how would I go about converting a CVT to a 6-speed manual?

Buick, of all companies, offers their cars with a 6 speed manual. Specifically the Regal Turbo and the Verano Turbo are available with the same drivetrain, a 250 HP 2.0L Turbo with a Saab F40 6 speed manual. Same basic drivetrain that was used in the Chevy Cobalt SS Turbo.

Why do you want a fucking altima?

>So do you know anything about converting a CVT to manual?
Its the same as converting a normal automatic to a manual
>transmission
>mounts (for the transmission)
>shifter with cables
>pedal assembly
>ECU
And then take it to the dealer so the manual transmission ECU can be reflashed to properly communicate with the car's BCM.

Honestly, the ECU and the BCM are the biggest hurdles because you have to get them to play nice.

>>14009061
I hate the Altima, but for some reason, I like the Altima coupe. I think it's the styling.

You just dont. Anything modern enough to have a CVT is going to be way too computerized to accept a transmission swap, hence why we're suggesting other cars. I don't honk you know what projection means as well.

He's talking about the computerized fuckery that i tend not to mess with. From your initial post I thought you did want the altima, but wanted manual version.

Also, "projecting" is when you take your own insecurities and apply them to your opponent in an argument, so I don't see how it applies here.
>>
not too hard, just remove the variator and replace with 2 gears, then remove the clutch assembly and replace the torque driver with 3 larger gears. mount clutch outside of gears

the hardest part is custom mounting the derailers

He was saying that the computers would make enough trouble that doing the swap would be pointless.

I wasn't lying. physically, it can be done. The biggest problem, as I said, is going to be getting the computers to play nice.

Also, the car OP was asking about was a 2013 Nissan Altima. :P

>>
>>14009174

The official toll didn't get above 200 deaths. Where the fuck did you get thousands? GM first reported 8-13 deaths. IIRC, the final tally was like 118.

>>14009179
>implying recalls have any bearing on actual reliability.

You forget. My Saturn was in that initial ignition switch recall. I kept up with it. try again.
>>
>>14008991
Depends on the engine in that thing, if there were manual gearboxes for same engine than it makes job easier. Another possibility is engine/gearbox bolt pattern is shared with another engine that had manuals.
If none of those work out you will have to mate engine to gearbox, which can be done with cutting and welding different bell housing or making an adapter plate which is more common.

That't the first question, second is mounts, clearance and axles. It makes sense to do that "on spot" since it's easier, you just hang stuff in place and weld mounts between. That, if there are no of the shelf parts, of course.
Oh, there is shifter and clutch pedal of course.

Then lastly is electronics, usually when swapping autos to manuals ecu gets tricked to think it's in neutral, but again you'll have to look at your particular case, maybe it's drive by wire and maybe other things... If nothing works out there is always aftermarket ecu's.
>>
>>14009188
>if there were manual gearboxes for same engine than it makes job easier.
The Altima has had the same engines since 2002. Both the 2.5L I4 and the 3.5L V6 have been available with 6 speed manuals.
>>
>>14009186
Are you serious faggot? Its not reliable if the parts have to be recalled. I don't have to forget because I never have known the pain of owning a piece of shit GM.

I still don't get what makes that so shitty. Saturn cars tended to be safer than their rivals because all the strength had to be in the cars skeleton and the body panels couldn't be structural. and replacing the panel was easy and cheap cuz it was just a plastic skin.

The turbochargers and 6 speed manuals beg to differ.
>>
>>14008991
OP here, back and after some looking around it appears that it's completely possible, but the aforementioned ECU.
>>14012375
You said the Altima's used the same 3.5L V6 since 2002?
Would it be possible to do an ECU swap with one from an SER (which was only available in manual)?
Thanks in advance.

As for everyone else, as has been stated, it's my friend's car, and it's not my business what he does or should do with it, i'm just here to help.
>>
>>14012409
>Would it be possible to do an ECU swap with one from an SER (which was only available in manual)?
unlikely. You would have to get that ECU to communicate with the body control module (BCM) that came with the car.
Doing everything properly would be extremely instensive, akin to rewiring the entire car from bumper to bumper.

Tell him to sell the car and buy one with a manual.
Also the Maxima from 2004+ was the Altima's sister car and the Maxima from 2004-2006 was available with the 6 speed manual.

There's a reason you still see a lot of them, and it's not just because it's an old person/black person car.

It kinda does, it's not really a car you can dog out, driving one makes you feel like an old person. But yeah on the flipside parts are very cheap and it's fairly easy to work on too.

The Fiero was advertised as a 2 seater economy car that happened to be fun to drive. The Miata isn't that different. argue amongst yourselves about it, but you'd have to be pretty retarded to think it has nothing in common with economy cars.

The same way you "convert" every other transmission.

You pull the old transmission out and put the new one it, fabricating shit like bell-housings and fittings, cutting out stuff to make room as necessary.
