Whoops, bumped old thread with this buuuut

Hey /o/, I'm looking at getting a street bike for a combination of commuting and just riding for fun. I live in B.C. Canada so I can get crazy good insurance on smaller bikes (think 250cc) and the weather is great year round. I've kind of been drawn to a Ninja 250/300 or something, but what are some tasty lower budget options to learn with?

Alright, I'm looking for something that has decent fuel mileage and I can do most of the maintenance for myself too. My truck runs
12
mpg and costs
200
per month in insurance so the bike will hopefully not be only for fun but save me some serious shit.

Grrr, I hate it when people do this. They literally just roll into a main street for a small street without stopping. Most of the time, they end up braking into the first lane, and have to reverse back.

They do this on blind corners where there is stop signs. I'm surprised they don't run more people over and get in more car crashes.
>>
>>14009089

Nice, insurance quoted me between 30-40 per month not including my fukken 20% discount for being awesome.

I regret ever getting a truck but whatever, it helped me move.

one cyl vibration

It's fine man. It doesn't vibrate thaaat much. It does vibrate, but it's more of a bike-personality thing. It doesn't generate any discomfort or any other problems. At least for me. I actually kinda like the brutish tractor-farm-equipment type of feel from the vibrations/torque

As for long distance riding, you can always get a windshield. Might not look supah cool, but it will work.

>>
>>14009653
I have no experience with the XT, but I don't see why vibration would be a big factor for you. The long distance riding thing, eh, I never rode more than 60 miles round trip but I can tell you that they are comfortable as hell. They call them hooligan bikes and that's how I use mine. From the minute I take it out to when I put it away I am wheelieng, jumping curbs, going on grass. If I gotta go fast, I use the GSXR and take the highway. Very user friendly and easy to get used to. You hear that they say they are like riding mountain bikes with big engines on them. That's exactly what they feel like.

>>14009660
Well that's a shame. Here, everyone has the same old boring GSXRs, R1s and Ninjas. Everytime I stop somewhere people take pictures, ask me about it, if it's street legal etc. Here dirt bike style bikes are about 1 in 100 to street bikes and scooters, so people always find time to look.

What's the deal with super motards?

they are pretty uncommon here in Australia, but you can get new ones for 3k for a surprisingly not totally shit brand new Chinese bike.
>>
>>14009965
Because people in Australia tend to ride their dirt bikes off road where they were designed to be ridden instead of down a highway doing willies.

I mean I guess I must suck then because I was physically feeling heavy wind push my bike. Cmon man the 450r weighs 240 wet. If your wearing gear that puts more drag above and dirt bikes have a high center of gravity. Of course I was having stability issues in high winds.

Fucking feels. My 450 is kickstart only and when I first thought I was a sick cunt I would ride on the street nobbys and like a 51t sprocket. That's a load of horseshit. Do they even ride?
Unless your commute is entirely Autobahn or straight country roads, a Supermoto is great fun.
The XT660X is not a bad bike but not a good Supermoto.
A bit heavy, a bit slow and not very well suspended.

For ultimate flexibility with regards to use, get a standard/naked.
You can get an SV650 in great condition and throw on a nice aftermarket exhaust for 4000€.
It will serve you well in all scenarios and be fun too.
