Hey thanks, friendo!
New to /o/, is WAT supposed to be an alternative way of saying 'wot' like 'uwotm8' or does it stand for something?
>thanks bro, Corvette or GTR?

No. WAT is a recursive acronym like WINE (WINE Is Not an Emulator).
How is WAT supposed to be pronounced? I've always thought to pronounce it "watt" but it occurred to me it may more likely be "what".
>>14010138
more like, 'waht'
>>14010157
That's the same as watt.
>>14010161
No.
>>14010138
10/10
>>14010138
>>14010161
Wait, do Americans pronounce "what" and "Watt" differently?
>>14010157
>>14010166
How is it different? I would say "waht" exactly as I say "watt".
>>14010169
I'm not even a rusemaster, but I'm now seeing how easy it is to shitpost, even by accident.
>>14010174
Yes.
What = "wut"
Watt = "wot" (short o sound)
>>14010174
Yes, we pronounce "what" differently because of the h
>>14010179
Waht has a slightly longer a sound than watt.
>>14010189
But when you account for the difference in dialect, such minute differences in correct pronunciation become more-or-less irrelevant.
I'll keep it in mind, though.
>>14010200
I'm not even a native English speaker, but it sounded right to me lmao.
>>14010236
Here I am openly taking English advice from an ESL student. Well you seemed to've paid attention when you learned, because you fooled me.
>>14010244
I learned English solely from Cartoon Network and browsing 4chan.
Sorry, I dont associate with non-tripfriends.
>>14010250
You can't be serious. But I really hope you are.
>>14010252
Now now. That's not the attitude to have.
>>14010267
It's not anything special, a lot of people learn English like that. It's just easy.
>>14010314
Go English! I love this language with its lack of rules and copious amounts of slang words.
But really, I do like who English offers so many slightly different ways to say the same thing. You can be as specific as you need to be. In my very limited experience with other languages, that is missing.
>>14010328
In Slav languages you can be 10 times more specific.
>tfw sweating palms at English job interviews because I'm too used to slang
At least I can hold my own in the hood.
>>14010350
Then Slav languages sound good. Most languages seem to lack true variety in language. Any that does not, I am fond of even if I don't speak it.
Fascinating. I've never thought about stuff like that before. It must be interesting (read: shitty) to be a non-native English speaker in an English speaking country or English speaking area.
>>14010364
Honesltly I've learned German and a little bit of Japanese. They're so distant from each other, but it still feels like they have a shit ton of variety. I just think English is too simple.
>>14010369
Maybe it's because you aren't native English or because your methods for learning it haven't taught you a lot of "harder" vocabulary. Though wtf am I talking about. Most people I know have a relatively small vocabulary. They can't benefit from the broad spectrum of words that English has to offer. So inevitably, I can't really either.
I envy you, and your knowledge of languages. I suppose I'm just a stupid American in this regard. I know a little Spanish, from school (at least I paid attention, and know more than most of my pupils did) and for the most part, that's it.
>>14010386
>I envy you
Don't, should have used "studied" instead of "learned", because I didn't learn shit. It's impossible to learn a language in school.
>>14010419
This is true. Even now, with the knowledge I have, I view it so structurally. I know what words go with what other words and how they're pronounced. But that's only a part of knowing a language. Not only do I not know enough Spanish to fully understand it (micro-translations in my head for sentences of words I do know, and no hope for words I don't), but the real life usage of a language is much different from the analytical view you are taught in school.
>>14010439
Yeah, instead of going to Germany and saying "eyy whassup famalam, cop a shitbox and let's rip some skiddlez and hoon all nite long", I'll just say "ja".
>>14010448
To be fair, if you said that to most English speakers, they'd probably not know what the fuck you're talking about.
>>14010455
Only becuase you guys are bad at drifting and racing.
>>14010466
Truuuue. We're all about that straight line performance! It does make sense, though. Most roads here are straight, or not aggressively curvy.
>>14010369
You kidding?
Japanese is insanely repetitive
>>14010478
You're entirely wrong. Go read some Japanese poetry.
>duuuude i saw that on reddit!
You pronounce it like hank hill. I tell you huwat
I used to like WAT but it's almost 2016, back in 2011 I didn't feel so bad about but nowadays I would never tell people I browse 4chan, it's like saying I browse reddit or tumblr
>>14010478
Maybe in pronunciation, but not the whole language itself.
>he didn't learn to type Exclusively from Runescape
