As for the 4.0, what do you think of that motor? the 3.0 is meh, but if I get a bronco II I will be looking at a 2.9 or 2.8, which both aren't perfect. a 4.0 swap would be neat though.

The 4.0 moves the truck pretty well. Never felt like I really needed more power and it still runs like a great at 150k miles. The 4.0 sohc has 50 more horsepower than my ohv so that must be even better.
