Honestly when i needed cheap parts for my vette that didn't need to be of the highest quality i went to partsgeek, sometimes they had the best prices by far. Ecklers and zip-corvette literally have almost everything you could need for this car. A little pricey though, good quality parts usually.

5.3's also take a lot of boost, but OP if you wanna go with a classic sounding N/A id go with the 6.0 lq4/lq9 even though they cost more than the 5.3

The blocks should weigh near the same. The later year models with aluminum heads will weigh quite a bit less, and the accessories,intake, and stuff will weigh less than the iron 70's era stuff.
But swapping in an LS and T56 isn't that cheap, and requires a bit of work to do a good job. I put a cammed LQ9 and T56 in my 73. In the end its worth it, but I could have just got some heads, cam, intake, and headers for my L48 and had decent power for a whole lot less.

if you do it yourself you can do it for under $5000 with a decent amount of upgrades. "denmah" from sloppymechanics just built his 6.0 turbo truck for $5000 and he is making 450hp on 9 pounds

For some of us $5k is still a lot of money. He also wasn't swapping into a 45 year old carbureted car in need of restoration.
Around $6k is about what I have into mine. Most of it came from TH350 to T56 conversion and custom sidepipes. Pretty sure you can get an adapter plate so you can keep using the stock auto.

Thats because I put it away in early october when the driver side rear wheel bearing started to growl just after i redid the fronts.
The whole rear end needs rebuilt and i was tired of dumping money into it when I figured it was going to start snowing soon
Here we are now in early mid December and I could have had two more months.
I'm hopefully buying an S13 as a cheaper project car.
