It was a nice looking car but there was always something broken and the thing had an archaic 3 speed trans despite being made in 1990

There are fucking plenty of 90s cars that handle way fucking better than the Miata that are cheaper
You CAN swap it for a strong engine, but it's a tiny convertible and that chassis is going to fuck itself unless you spend a ton of money reinforcing it
It was always meant to be a casual roadster, but people trick themselves into thinking it's some ultimate driving machine track car
it's really not
Everything the Miata does is done better by other cars.
The only reason I can really think of buying one:

You wanted RWD really really bad for some reason and the S chassis was too hard
My first car was a PT Cruiser (pic related). While it was fun to drive, it just kept having problems; one time I had to replace radiated, because pulling into a parking lot, it bottomed out on the ditch and bent a metal piece far enough to snap the drain off the radiator. Also had to replace both front wheel bearings, including one of the hubs that holds them! A power steering hose sprung a leak so would spout smoke on the block in tight turns...and after that hose was fixed, the rubber oil line to the turbo failed! Which took forever to find, cause when the car's on jacks there's no strain and so the turbo wouldn't be going...
Also, 24mpg in a modern day 4-cyl, even the non turbo ones? That's just pathetic! 1960s strait-6 engines could get better mileage.

Sounds like you've been listening to too many bench racers.
It was designed as a convertible so it retains its rigidity pretty well. Also, power alone doesn't fuck up bodies/chassis. You'd also need a fuckhuge diff and fuckhuge wheels.

I completely that the XJS was one of the worst cars in history to own.
However, in 1994-95, that car was completely redesigned to be one of the most reliable Jaguars ever built, with the straight six and beefy transmission.
