Agreed. Who turns their nose up at 90 extra horseponies? It'd be one thing if the 2.5i was a robust engine with plenty of power to move the OB's pigfat arse around, but the 2.5i really feels like a sluggish turd in these cars especially if you live in a mountainous area.

I have two other cars to have fun in. The 2.5i was much cheaper to buy, cheaper to insure, cheaper to maintain, and it takes 87 octane. The whole point of this car is to be a boring wagon that hauls a bunch of my shit while still having a manual trans. If I didn't own two other fun cars, I'd have gone for an XT 5MT.
Had a forester, basically a lifted outback. Such a great car apart from the headgaskets. Visibility was excellent, steering feedback was ok for a DD, it was great from a stop although gutless on the freeway, ans it was absolutely unstoppable in the snow. On TCS equipped models it had a nice button to turn it off because subaru knew TCS didn't work in snow. I miss that car.

I've got a fun car too, but I went with the XT because fuck having money. I pay $40 every fillup and get 15mpg (19 if I never engage trubo) just so I can get pushed back into my seat and hear that little pssst sound when I shift. Financially speaking incredibly stupid, but it makes me happy. There's something really satisfying about feeling a car that big and heavy accelerate like that.

I agree with the cheaper 87octane and overall cost approach by going non xt. I went with the H6 to compensate and glad I did. H6 is a good middle ground and isn't riddled with headgasket issues. H4 is a capable little beast though. Essentially a small truck.
