my little sr has developed an irritating fault

when it's warmed up there's a tapping noise coming from either the cylinder or the transmission, I think its the transmission.

I can live with that, but the ride isn't smooth any more. From cold it's fine, but when it's warm when it's pulling it feels like the drive chain is skipping teeth. I can feel the knocks in the footpegs.

It sounds expensive to fix.

I'm looking at getting a scooter for a city ride, i spend so much time at low speeds in start stop traffic. Would a 300cc scooter like this be absurdly over the top for a little scooter?

is it a loud noise? also does it sound like small amounts of metal on metal colliding? start up your bike and try to listen to where it is coming from.

Congraturations SV anon. Also your SV is sexy as fug, I'd love to own one, though they're not very common around here.

I started by downloading the service manual and doing an oil and filter change. Then I started doing all sorts of small things and before I knew I was checking my own valves and changing steering bearings. The things described on the service manual are fairly straighforward if you have patience and disposition. I would probably have spent a fortune in shop fees by now if I wasn't doing my own stuff.

How does /o/ feel about Naked bikes?

I think they look cool, but nobody here seems to have one so i'm not sure if there is a reason they aren't popular
>>
fork seals are btfo

>>
>>13998766
it does, but only when it's been ridden for a few minutes

first thought was exhaust gasket but there's no blows
I think the cam chain was replaced when I got it, which was only in November
the noise just appeared from nowhere, it wasn't gradual

I should call the dealer, he'll probably want money just to look at it, but I don't like engine noises
>>

I've seen a lot of people on scooters with the bare minimum of gear, like a helmet and a summer dress with thongs.

Scooterfags who wear gear give me the impression that they drive auto cars and want to get into motorbiking, and really should have just gotten a cheap 250 bike instead.

of a standard? naked bikes are just that, naked. A standard has a much more neutral seating position, which is comfier. also typically a bit more ground clearance, can be cheaper and still have good suspension geometry for decent handling.
>>
>>13998828
No fairings to break. Easier maintenance.
>>
>>13998842

If i got a naked bike and added a small windshild like this>>13998840

>>
>>13998855

Yeah, good on ya m8. Self maintenance is the best thing since making your own sandwiches. I spent $289 awhile back just to get an oil change for my scooter and felt stupid as fuck afterwards. Got me a sports bike and now I wanna do all my own stuff (with the help of Youtube, of course).

It felt exhilarating when I finally changed my oil. Like putting on a fresh pair of socks or something. Next I wanna clean and oil my chain. I gotta buy one of those things that lifts the back of the bike up though.

Kelowna and Vancouver only have a few months a year you can't ride. Expensive to live there though.

If you do move here, BC has some great riding roads. Avoid flat Alberta/Saskatchewan/Manitoba at all costs, and Ontario has some shit driving laws so don't go there either if you like fun.

Pic somewhat related, my GOAT sv650 in ghetto touring mode. The bike will hopefully naked by next season.

>Push the handlebars really hard to get back to my lane
>The bike feels super heavy because of the speed
>Manage to get back into my lane

I was like 6-8 seconds in the incorrect lane. I was lucky nobody was going the other direction.

Also, on the same road, a while later.
>My full attention on the road after that call
>Riding with high beams, speeding, I see something weird, like there's a vehicle in front but can't see lights or reflective strips or anything.
>Get closer

>Chop the throttle
>The tank basically digs into my crotch from the engine braking
>See if there is incoming traffic
>Nobody is coming
>Indicators on, roll on the throttle and overtake

I also had that same fucking close call when driving my dad's car. With my dad in the passenger seat. We were going back home from a family meeting, he drank that night so I had to drive. Put too much pressure on the rear brake and skidded for 20 feet before my knee collided with his back left indicator at about 25. The only thing that happened to my 450 was the handlebars bending. A crowd started gathering and I didn't want to draw attention, so I realized I was in 3rd and started the bike. The old cunt started coming at me to see if I was okay and I was still in adrenaline defense mode that I pushed him with one hand and blasted off. I went a few blocks and stopped to check my injuries. I had plastic in my knee and I bruised up good for a few weeks, but my dad taught me to be a sick cunt so I laid in bed and played vidya for a while.

GPS equipped watches like the Suuntos aren't really made for navigation and turn by turn directions. They're more for recording your jogging distance and plotting it out on a map for novelty. Not to mention how absurdly small and hard to see the screens are.
Wrapping that around your bars would just be worthless.
>>
>>13999732
A smartwatch would probably be too small for you to reference quickly while riding.
If you already have a phone with GPS functionality, you can get mounts to attach that to your handlebars.
A real motorcycle gps would resist vibration and weather better, as well as being easier to see in direct sunlight, and probably would have better battery life.

hilariously incorrect, dr-z's are slow dude, especially stock, they're not like proper motards which blow your dick off with instant power they're super relaxed.

and the answer is SV650, every time.

Here in AU they come restricted, just pick up an ECU off a crashed USA bike (17GC0 is the code) and you're good to go.

I find it ugly too, but what the bike looked like had very little to do with the reason I purchased it, I purchased it because in my opinion it's the best value LAMS bike you can possibly get for your money, you have to spend like 14k to get something like a street triple 660 then get the ECU flashed to get something better.

If you want a twin/triple sport commuter MT-07 is your best option but they're still new so not cheap.

Remove armor. Turn inside-out.
Wash in the washing machine, cold water, gentle cycle. Tumble dry cool or "delicate" cycle. If you would rather air-dry, lay flat on the drying rack, do not hang to dry, as that causes the leather to stretch in strange ways.

That is the problem man, I cannot save any money. This shithole has been in permanent recession since the 70's or so. My money is worth shit.
Let's say I save every cent I earn for a year, I cannot even then buy a motorcycle. Not even a 250. The worst part is, money loses value with time. It's like you save then after each year the amount you have is cut in half. Because it loses face value and everything in the market is more expensive.

I put all my hope in getting my degree and flying the shit out of here and never coming back. I just want to live in a place where I could get out of my house for a walk and not risk being shot because someone tried to steal my crappy ass cellphone or shoes or for really no fucking reason.

A lot of CO is super "white." A lot of Colorado has a lot of hispanic folk. Some of Colorado has "melanin enriched" folk, but they seem to be limited to the Springs, parts of Denver, and Grand Junction. But Colorado is goddamn beautiful.

>>

It's a good deal IF you don't have to pay too much for the work AND that's all that is wrong with it. I'm assuming the lever needs replacing because he crashed, and the carbs need cleaning because it was put up wet.

If you can do the work yourself, great. Otherwise check with your shop first to estimate what your total cost is.

The engine is good for 100K miles plus as long as it wasn't willied to oil starvation. If your total cost isn't too bad, it's a good deal/

What vespa have you got? what's the problem with the fuel hose?

the old vespas are worth quite a lot of money if you're not really interested in it, and if it's rough original paint it is only going to be worth more

depending on your country obviously

My dad worked on race boats and shit, he's pretty mechanically inclined and I can wrench on basic shit. I'm just worried about carb syncing but I can teach myself, I've cleaned solo carbs before. Repairs would be around $200 so I'll see if I can get him to $900.

If you've ever changed the hose on a vespa, you know the problem... With the tank off, the hose is too short to feed in to the engine bay. With the tank on, you cannot reach the hose because the tank seals the compartment where the hose is. The only way to do it that I have found is to start with six feet of hose, then cut it. Well, I did that, but the shitty Harbor Freight hose clamps leaked, so now I have to buy another six feet of hose... I'll get to it, but first I need to get the carbs back on my SV.

It's a 78 P200E, I'm not interested in selling it, as it belonged to my mother, who has since passed.

I don't like US immigration laws and the discrimination some folks from here got when they were living or working in the US. Everything is great but the people in most places has some race superiority bullshit ingrained so bad that they'll do whatever to make your stay the worst.
I get it, there is people who won't like me being there, I won't try. Life is too short to fight for a place you don't want to be in.
I'm also against thinking of the US as the best place to live in the world. When I say here I want to leave the country, that's what most people think, I'll go to Fl or something like that. The world is huge to think so high of a single country.
I'll be happier to get past another language barrier and mix myself with another kind of society.

If anything that I wrote makes sense. It's hard to define in a few words the way I feel about an entire country.

There should be enough length in the fuel hose to lift the tank just above the frame and still have the hose connected, then you turn the tank 90 degrees put your hand down into it and feed the hose through

Is your tank the one with a seperate reservoir for oil? I've never used one of those tanks but perhaps the fuel hose is different length for premix and autolube tanks?

>Is your tank the one with a seperate reservoir for oil?

Yep, which may be the problem, or perhaps I just don't know what I am doing. from what you describe, I cut the damn hose way too short.

So it sounds like what I need to do is leave enough slack to do what you describe. After that there is a little bodywork to take care of (the coot got hit from behind by another bike, left a wheel-print in the sheet metal) and I'll be riding around in style!

In fact, I am studying something I don't give a fuck about. I just want the shit piece of paper from the university that certifies I paid my ass off through 5 years of tuition and that I'm an engineer and "know things".

I have no other choice. The world is retarded and you can't know things without being "certified" in a way or another. I already tried doing "freelance" stuff and didn't work out, also tried getting jobs everywhere with no luck because no certification.
The only shit I can get as I am now is a low-pay job with no chances of it getting any better.

Unironic Harley fan reporting.

>implying baby boomers buy the Sportster

Nah, they go for the big-inch touring bikes. Better on their old, aging spines to be on a lazyboy, so they buy the next best thing and spend 45k on a lazyboy with a motor strapped to it.

Harley dealerships like to upsell by claiming the Sportster is a 'woman's bike', so all the viagra warriors buy them for their wives, and load them down with saddlebags and windshields and shit so it 'looks' like the husbands Road King, just in a smaller package because the wife doesn't actually want a bike, and wants to be 'cash conscientious.' Fuck 'em, the Sportster is great.

Has it got the ugly US round back light?

You probably want to keep it the way it was when bought but the square tail lights look better and will probably cover that damage you talked about, and then with the licence plate on can you even see the damage?

Yeah most old vespas and lambrettas carry a spare, really easy to swap over too.
And you have a glovebox to keep tools and cables in :-)

On vespas the spare is carrier under the left panel, it kind of helps balance the weight from the engine being under the right panel

Yeah, the Softails as they come from the factory are basically ass compared to the Dyna line. Dyna's have the weight advantage, overall better suspension, cheaper price tags, identical powerplants, more models to choose from - and you really want the hardtail look, you can have one hell of a Harley-powered-custom build for 25k, which actually has the chopper look a lot of Softail buyers crave, but with better aftermarket suspension anyway. And yet they still go for the Softies. Go figure.

The Roadmaster is a absolutely kickass choice though. That 111ci/1811cc is nothing to scoff at for going quick in a straight line, or just for off the line power. Plus, they have a wicked sense of style to them.
