No, you will be able to import them in a frew years. The 1992 models are scarce already so the first Twingos should theoretically be importable by 2018, providing there will be any 1993 models running by then.

Hamburg is one of the biggest shitholes for buying cheap used cars. It's full of arabs and turks trying to sell pretty much totaled cars for a not very cheap price. Many of them get agressive when they realize you're not going to buy from them. Been there 2 or 3 times to look at cars and it was always the same. Ended up buying my Twingo from an elderly couple who stored it in a garage for most of the time and only used it to drive around when they were on holiday.

You can as long as you don't drive it on public roads/only use it offroad or on a track, but it's considerably harder to register it for street use if it was imported before it turned 25. In addition, if you illegally register it as something else/VIN swap to drive it before it's old enough it can be seized and crushed even after it turns 25.

You could ask a local importer to organize all the shipping and paperwork for you, shouldn't be too bad. ~1500USD for the car in good shape, maybe up to 5000 USD for shipping and handling, then it's yours and you're actually unique in NZ.
No idea about import laws in NZ, but you will probably be a lot better off if you bought an almost new Twingo 1 in Colombia (production in Colombia of Twingo 1 until pretty recently... 2012 or so).

Yes I did. About 16 sec on 98 premium gas. But I dont drive it hard. Gotta keep the consumption low. I have a max cruising speed of 85 km/h on the highway so the noise and the vibrations are not too strong.
I drove lots of cars, but 0-100 this is the slowest one. It picks up fairly good to about 70, but after that its very slow. I drove a 1.7 diesel astra without turbo, so that would be a good comparison. Even a 1.4 fiat stilo multiwagon i drove is faster than a twingo. But the twingo is a city car, so all well and good.
All is standard. I dont know the exact tranny. Everything is still original from the factory.

IIRC I got 14 or 15 seconds on mine. By what tranny I meant is it manual or that quickshift bullshit that's appearently really expensive to repair.
I've actually TLGP'd my friend's 4.0L 1996 Explorer and up until 30/40 kmph we were going head to head. It's really dynamic at first but lacks power to make it up at bigger speeds.
Twingos are like dirt cheap where i live so lately i've been thinking about buying one for a project.
I've always wanted a sleeper so i might as well make it out of a memecar.
I know the engine bay isn't exactly what you could call big but surely you could fit something decent there. Any suggestions?

Oh that. Its the normal 5 speed manual. I wish it had a 6th like my other car. You get quite used to the 6th gear.
I have shit all weather tyres, so thats why the acceleration is not quite as good.
But I also dont have any options. No power steering, no abs, no a/c. But I have remote locks and power mirros because logic.

I'm not exactly in a pinch but since it's not me who pays the insurance and maintenance because I don't make my own money yet, it's not me who decides its fate, especially since it's not in such a good condition. Plus, I've already bought a new car and we currently have 4 cars in a family of 3 and a fifth is coming up thanks to a kind friend my dad used to work for. To be honest I was scared of driving the Twingo sometimes because of all the rust and shit but I bet any car enthusiast has their feelings towards their first car. Rust all around, old, no power steering, AC doesn't work properly and smeels like burned plastic, loud because of holes in exhaust pipe. Also needs more breaking fluid and probably new breaking pads.
