I own a ford fiesta (basic 1.6L one).
Long story short: I shifted to 1st going 40mph like an idiot.
If you have to askwhy, it's because I'm an idiot. I honestly don't know what happened.
The car seems fine, and from what I have read, if the car didn't catch smoke or instantly blew something, then nothing happened. I should just be careful not to do it again.
Am I in the clear /o/? I'll wade through the shitposting and trolling, I just hope one of you can give me a straight (and hopefully positive) answer.

I just want to either put my mind at ease or act immediately if something needs to be addressed.
for the record. The car runs fine. The clutch and shifter work perfectly. It idles fine and the tranny makes no abnormal noise. Car is as fine as it was before I fucked up.

but would it actually do that? I read that if I was going at highway speeds (60-70). The rev limiter would surpass the redline (~7000) and pop.. so did I narrowly miss snap city?

dropping gears like that can shread the dogteeth on your speed gear making it hard to shift i mean at 40 your engine would be mostly fine you wouldnt throw a rod but a transmission is what puts your torque to the wheels so you probobly shouldnt try that again. also speed gears are expensive to fix unless you wanna rebiuld it yourself

Don't do it.
DO NOT downshift to 1st on the highway.
In theory, if your car was made after 2010, the computer should have a lock on your car that makes it nigh impossible to shift to 1st at high speeds.
If you're an idiot like OP and probably force-shifted to 1st, then quite frankly you deserve what's coming to you.

My car is an 06 Mustang GT. I was going from 5th to 4th slowing down into a turn pike. I was probably doing 60~? Luckily my 2nd gear tops out at like 62.

i rebiult a t5 out of my buddies mustang and he was doin 80 something and dripped it to 2nd. the 2nd speed gear was shreaded so bad the sync sleave wasnt able to catch the dogteeth and so it would slip right out of gear

A mustang going at ~65 dropping to 2nd is a farcry for a shitty little fiesta going ~35 then shifting to 1st (fiestas have a super-short 1st gear)
That's what happened to me, going 35-40, then hit 1st: JOLTED like a bucking bronco. Immediately felt like shit and pulled over and slapped myself in the face.
I just hope everything will be ok.

Worst I've ever done is thrown it in 3rd when I meant to go to 5th, so from the top end of 4th.
I was aggressively merging on the highway so it wasn't a shift from 2500 either, it was closer to 4K.
GF was in the car and the sound she made was fucking hilarious. I was like "welp, I'm awake now"

I don't think there's any real correlation between transmission preference and intelligence. It doesn't take a lot of brainpower to work a manual. It's 95% muscle memory that anyone can acquire if they're so inclined.

I've done that on my mom's estate one time. I was on the freeway at about 100km/h on 4th, downshifted to 1st by mistake but I rapidly caught it with the the clutch before it redlined.

Not OP, but
It cuts off fuel after a certain rpm. A rev limiter won't do shit if the wheels are turning fast enough to force the engine to overrev
40mph in first is probably over the rev limiter
i have a story though:

Yeah, many cars have 1st gear lockout, but some don't and a lot of the time you can still use the 2nd gear to similar effect
