How gutless are these things? Do bolt ons like long tubes even do anything? I was thinking about getting one for a daily and spraying it with 100-150 shot and putting exhaust on it. Considering both P71 and Civilian models, but I live in Phoenix and the idea of getting one already installed with the push bar is exciting and comforting, considering these fucks from here can't drive for fuck.

Anybody own one on here? How is it on long trips? What kind of shit breaks on them?

Are you exaggerating or being serious? They can't be that fucking slow, although the Corolla probably weighs 2klbs less, so even 100hp would probably move it quicker. My wife would be driving this thing too, and I don't want her to drive a tiny shitbox in this city, and not to mention the beaners totally fucked up the used car market here, and trying to find anything that's a Honda, Toyota or Nissan for a reasonable price isn't going to happen, I've been looking for a while.

They're not that gutless. Haven't done any mods to mine but they apparently respond very well to nitrous. Crownvic.net is a good resource, I don't think they recommend long tubes. Mines been a daily driver for awhile now, only thing that did break is the driver side power window motor. All I did was take motors out of another at a junkyard and it's fixed now.
>>
>>13990579
2V 4.6 pretty much is what it is and mods are not that impressive because of that. Biggest bottleneck is the intake followed by the heads. Both are designed around putting the power curve where it is stock and it's not cheap to change it. Sure, Trick Flow makes some decent 2V heads and an intake to match but last I looked it costs close to $5K for the package and then you'll want a grand worth of cams to take advantage of the new found airflow capability. Once you get done with that the bottom end becomes a problem with the weak-ass powdered metal (fancy speak for cast) rods and hypereutectic pistons. Not to mention the 2V oil pump rotors like to come apart at higher rpm or quicker accel.

You want a quicker CV for cheap then gears and a driveshaft is about it
>>
>>13990642
Good thing you will play eurobeat rolling up to car meets, because you'll need it to drown out everyone's laughter.
>>
>>13990640

Carmy =/= Corolla

Also the CVPI is geared incredibly tall.

Anyway on the subject, the Modular blocks respond decently to bolt-ons and a blower quite well.

Toyotas go for way too much money. I'm done with econoboxes anyway, I've been driving them almost exclusively for the past 5 or 6 years. I want something with a V8, even if it's not a godtier LSX engine. As ads above show, for the same money I can find nicer, newer, lower mile CVPIs in my area than Corollas. Is there anything comparable to the Crown Vic that is better and on the same price point?

And god... look at that trunk!

I wouldn't bother, that's stupid money to spend. You're in LS1 swap territory at that point anyway. I wouldn't mind spraying it a little though, as that's much more cost effective and I couldn't see myself beating on it every day.
>>
>>13990700
Heres a newer Corolla (still 6 years old, and about as old of a crown Vic as I'm willing to buy, I'm considering 07-11 models). 88,000 miles. Almost 10k? No thanks. All econoboxes, even automatic appliances/non performance models fetch big money now, unless they are just bombed out shitboxes.

What do you like and dislike about it the most?
>>
Well I didint see there was a thread specifically on crown vics, I just posted this in the fedora thread lol.

My uncle has been flipping police auction cars. He gets to inspect them days before the auction. He just stole a p-71 for $600 and he really got a good one. There was a sister car there in the same condition that he opted not to buy, which sucks because I would have totally bought it off him considering how good his is. The one he got has brand new michelins on all around. The car is pretty damn well put together, it literally feels like it is brand new, other than the body dings and interior.

I took it out onto the highway at like 3am got her up over 130 easily, and then flogged it on some back roads to see what it would do. That spotlight is great for watching the side of the road for deer. The LSD is worn out because it is very hard to get it to kick the rear out at speed, but it will torch both tires at parking lot speeds. Suspension, brakes and steering is all very good. Car is huge and heavy, true, but still pretty good.

How will other police react to average white people driving well conditioned P-71s? Im not talking about redgaurds driving donked out 1997 crown vics obviously.

But do you think cops are more, or less likely to pull someone over driving a police interceptor? Im talking about when they get behind you and run your tags. At a glance, if you look respectable, they will likely think you are a LEO if the car is nice enough.

>spray

And again it's the intake that fucks ya.

Had a friend play with a 98 Mustang 2V automatic some years ago and nitrous was the weapon of choice. Eventually got the car down into the low 11's but started out with a simple plate system After several intake explosions that broke the intake he switched to the NOS Noszzle system and it STILL blew up 3 or 4 intakes. Usually when he had to pedal it any at all, but not always. We were looking at doing some sort of panel blow-out setup or a seriously expensive aftermarket intake when he had problems with the short block (long story involving Coast High Performance) and sold the car. As for all the blown up intakes he worked at a dealer and got them for free one way or another. I'm sure fraud figures into it lol

This is probably one of my few concerns I have with buying one. I don't care about any "stigma" with them necessarily, in the same way I love Miatas and I don't care if it's "le hairdresser meme car".

I don't want any real significant attention from law enforcement. I figure the civilian model with bright trim would help avoid this, but still looks like a "cop car", so I figured I might as well to the P71 with the more spartan interior with rubber floor that's easier to clean.

Can anybody on here who has one pipe in on if you actually get fucked with by cops more by driving one?

I have not had any trouble with the police. Mine had new tires, brakes and an oil change at retirement as well.

>>13990714
Gas mileage is what I mostly dislike, I average 16-18mpg mixed driving. Then again, I drove heavy footed and don't have cruise control. I have gotten 22MPG out of it once but I would expect the worst when considering it. I am disappointed about the cost to get any decent amount of power out of these modular engines which is why I'm still holding off on doing anything to it. But as a daily driver it's great as is. The engine sounds good, rides good, lots of room.
>>
>>13990718
Most cops don't give a shit UNLESS you're also doing cop things like parking in the medians, etc., to give the impression that you actually are a cop.

And having owned an ex cop car, it's incredibly annoying that everybody slows down and paces each other at 5 under the limit when all you're trying to do is go somewhere.
>>
>>13990762
Did he use a throttle microswitch or RPM activated window switch?

I used to have a first gen DSM that I sprayed. It was a stock bottom end, 50 trim turbo @30lbs, cams, springs, exhaust, supporting mods, yadda yadda. Never had any issues with a single nozzle fogger setup, but used a microswitch off the throttle body.

I had a friend with a C5 FRC Corvette who sprayed and regularly blew up the plastic air bridge in front of the MAF. He'd shift to late or miss a shift, hit the rev limiter while spraying, and BOOM went the airbridge. I know that those intake manifolds are shitty on the Fords but GM uses plastic ones too, and I would think that spray wouldn't kill them unless there was some other issue where nitrous is causing a backfire when he's somehow hitting a rev limiter, decelerating, etc.

It's been over a decade now and I don't recall ALL the specifics but he used a throttle switch on his car (the 2V was the wifes car lol) so I suspect he'd do the same on the 98. He was no newbie to spray. His car was a fogger set up and over 400hp worth of nitrous. I don't remember how much nitrous he used on the 98 but the car went high 13's on motor and 11.3's on the bottle so it was more than a little. We were kinda thinking he was overfeeding it for as mild an engine it really was and the nitrous would back up into the intake until something set it off.

It cost a lot to make a 2v 4.6 make anything resembling modern day power. Long tubes alone are worth the price of a p71.

I bought one recently and have to say I'm very pleased with it. I has extremely low expectations and just needed a cheap reliable car for long trips, but I've found myself really enjoying the car.

It's not fast, but considerably faster than I expected. I drove a 94 Lincoln TC for a while and expected the Vic to behave similarly, but it's night and day between the two. The Vic is an 07 and handles so much better than the TC. It's also markedly faster... or at least faster feeling.

The big advantage to a CVPI is the more aggressive shift points and the 3.27 or 3.55 diff compared to most LX,MGM,TC with 2.73s. The car has a lot of low end grunt, but the top end is more than a little lackluster. After some research I found out that a CVPI with 3.55s is actually faster to 30 than a Marauder. Again, top end isn't really there but they're quick enough for a daily.

I bought it with the intent of using it for long trips but find myself driving it everywhere lately. It's great on the highway and I really lucked out because my CVPI has cruise control, power seats and a CD player whereas many CVPIs don't. I'd definitely recommend looking for one with these options as the more spartan models could get tiresome on a long drive. Power seats are an absolute must though. The seats are mildly to moderately comfortable when sitting for hours and with out the 8 way adjustable option and lumbar support I could see a base one being extremely uncomfortable on the highway. The seats are pretty soft and while that's great for trips under 2 hours, over 2 hours I find myself adjusting them and stretching my back to keep from sinking in.

Having a "Cop Car" in city traffic is a bit annoying as people slow down and turn in front of you a lot, but on the highway it's great. Cruise in the left and everyone just gets over to the right lane and lets you pass.

Overall I expected a 4-5/10 experience but after owning one for a month I'd give it a 7.5-8/10.
>>
>>13995534
2/2

As for things that break... My horn doesn't work and apparently that's pretty common on CVPIs. Other than that there are zero issues with my car. I know older models had problems with composite intakes and timing chain guides, but overall they've got a reputation for reliability. (The primary reason I bought one)

Also... IMO the 3.27 rear diff is ideal. 3.55s will be a bit quicker off the line, but they absolutely kill MPGs and have a lower speed limiter due to issued with drive shaft vibration. 3.55's will also be typically used on city squad cars whereas 3.27s will be found on Highway patrol cars that have lived much more gentle lives.
