damn that paint looks good with a cut/polish/wax.

it still amazes me that new cars roll out the factory with basically orange peel. I know its cheaper and reduces time, hides differences in metal and plastic parts and all, but id rather have a mirror shine and parts slightly different than looking like a golfball.
>>
>>13990836
No. I still can't register my go kart so it's still to strict. Also we miss out on a bunch of cars because of our safety

We don't have fun, we only hate avoidable danger on public roads because it stands in opposition with speed. And I'll rather have speed than street-legal redneck engineering.

You can color sand a new car, just going to take forever since the paint will be fully hardened when you buy it

Maybe, but public roads aren't the place for it. You can do in your driveway whatever you like, and you can do on the track whatever you like depending on the track, but the roads are everyone's space and not yours.

Wat? Cars haven't been painted with lacquer for a long time. Most new cars are painted with waterborne color and clear, before that it was urethane. You are polishing the clearcoat when you color sand a new car.
>>
>>13990985
Just because you screwed plates onto it or because there are no inspections to fail doesn't automatically mean it's legal; street vehicle codes still apply and you can still get pulled over. That one in the picture doesn't even have headlights which to my knowledge are basic equipment even in the most liberal states (liberal as in liberty, not as in leftists in case you want to confuse it again).

He's pretending the autobahn is worth not getting to drive what you want and having to pay for an inspection every year.

Funny too all those inspections and super safe cars and your insurance rates are still more than double what we pay in the states.

But it is required for you to drive, correct?

Either way, be happy with your inspections, I don't really care. I'll be out driving whatever I want.
>>
>>13991160
You said you get to drive what you want, I'm curious what you want to drive. Now you don't even want a car at all because your great infrastructure? Odd sentiment for someone posting on an auto enthusiast board.

>>
>>13991185
Im not him, but rat rods have always been "outside" the general car enthusiast scene. Hot rodders dislike them, trackfags dislike them, drag guys dislike them and so on.

It's really only in the last few years that they've seen popularity as the new generation comes into the scene.
>>
>>13991207
If you're looking purely at budget, almost no one gets to drive exactly what they want regardless of the country. With sufficient funds you can very much drive what you want wherever you may live, provided it's not a complete death trap. Which should be in your own interest anyway, and if it isn't you're a irrepairable moron.
>>
>>13991215
That is complete nonsense. People have been taking whatever body shell and spending all the time/money on the chassis and drivetrain since hot rodding was born in the early days of El Mirage, it's not outside the car enthusiast scene, it's the essence of car culture. Whether these new purposely patina'd cars made to look vaguely like those old rods (like the ones posted ITT) are "true rat rods" I suppose is up for debate, but who cares, it's just people building what they want.

>the roads are everyone's except yours so don't do things which have been consensually considered unsafe in a legislative process spanning a multitude of decades
This is what I'm actually saying. It's not like vehicle codes are random ideas by a single person at a single point, they've been shaped across decades of studies and lawmaking. Do you think you stand above decades of knowledge, especially in public? I mean, you're free to be a moron and harm yourself on your own property, but you're seriously arguing for doing the same in public.

Who is breaking the vehicle code here? You said the US should have a similar vehicle code as Germany, despite having completely different road infrastructures and cultures. Maybe the vehicle code in the US has
>been shaped across decades of studies and lawmaking
and that's how rat rods have been deemed legal for road use
>>
>>13991456
But in many cases they aren't even road legal by American standards, their states just happen to have no inspections for them to fail. But that doesn't make them road legal.
>>
>>13991492
In most states all you need is headlight, taillight, brake light, fenders, mirrors, and horn.
>>
>>13991550
Okay, then point me to fenders on a rat rod.
>>
>>13991613
He said "most", didn't he?
I've seen rat rods in California, so that says something. I don't think fenders are actually required when the car is old enough.
>>
>>13991613
you get the idea.

>>
>>13991379
Hot rods make up such an insignificant percent of road accidents that there's really no point in banning them, otherwise it would have already been done.

It's like advocating banning "assault weapons", it's just asinine and doesn't actually protect anyone.

>Good for you if those are your preferences, enjoy your 65 mph highways.
I know I'm late, but as someone who has limited in both Germany and the United States, Germany in many ways is worse to drive in. The construction on the autobahns is non stop, most areas have slower speed limits than the US, and while there are some areas that are free zones - they are getting to be less and less and driving fast on a straight road gets boring really fast - especially when it is two lanes wide and at any moment some jerkoff will cut in front of you. It's still better to be on a track in Germany than on the roadways.

Also the speed cameras are everywhere and the rules on driving in general are absolutely over the top faggotry. I knew a kid who got a ticket on a scooter because his NEIGHBOR said he went to fast in a residential area.

Germany is great until you live there.

Also now you are full of muslims and your kids are already eating doner kebobs and turkshit.
