Those are all super high strung, technical engines with a jillion dollars in engineering. The Viper V10 is... still essentially a big pushrod-driven V8 with another cylinder in each bank.

If you're buying a Viper, you're going into it knowing that you've got a unique engine and car there, even if it doesn't make as much poowwwaaahhhhhh as a $400k exotic, and that's fine. It's like buying an RX7. Yeah, sure, you could get rid of the rotary and swap in an LS- but then why not just buy a Vette to begin with?

if it was overhead cam it would be a much better engine, but that would require them to design a completely new engine. then it wouldn't be so cheap.

The original Viper engine was a V8 from a truck that was cast in aluminum and extended lengthwise to have an extra cylinder on each side. That's where the 'Viper has a truck engine' rumor comes from- it's somewhat true, but it didn't have one of the truck engine V10s, but a modified V8.

The current Viper engine is totally unique and shares maybe one bolt with that, though.
