Why are so many American cars supercharged vs turbo'd? Is it because of history/nostalgia?
>>13980500
Cheap gas and it's normally much easier just to stick a blower on top.
Turbo technology a couple decades ago wasn't very good...
So many?
Nigger what?
People put them on for drag racing and shit but I don't know about "so many" American cars that come from factory with a blower
>>13980511
This as well
Besides the C6 ZR1 and the CTS-V, who else really supercharges modern engines?
Jaguar and Land Rover...
>>13980515
Mercedes did a while back
the e55 you know and the mediocre c230 had one
>>13980527
>so many supercharged American cars
Are any current Mercs supercharged?
Easier to bolt on. Boost through the whole Rev range which is needed when your engine only revs to 5000rpm
>>13980500
It looks fucking awesome. What don't you get?
>>13980515
I think GM has a blown option for their 6.2 gassers for Silverados. I could be absolutely wrong though.
But there's just something awesome about blowers.
I watched top fuel drag racing in person and there's magic with those blowers.
That's what you use when you want power right fucking now.
>>13980532
>he thinks straight up RPM determines exhaust flow, and therefore turbospool
>>13980500
Power throughout the rev range.
>>13980532
So if I don't have a garage and minimal tools, I would be better to supercharge instead of turbo?
>>13980588
Normally, yes. Especially if it isn't intercooled, it is fairly simple.
>>13980588
Yes. It's pretty much a new intake with a pulley. Vs a turbo which has to be hooked up to the exhaust.
basically simplicity and packaging.
the Corvettes use a VERY low profile Blower.
that and twin screw blowers can last 200K miles
a modern twin screw can make 800+ horsepower before it runs out of breath.
>>13980588
easy as hell
that's why TVS blower kits are so common on trucks and other V8s
anybody with a normal set of tools can install one.
>>13980500
because a supercharger is much more fun driving around the city. also they are much easier to install, repair, replace, and maybe design im not sure. its a cheap as fuck gimmick to draw in the kids.
who would dare ?
>>13980919
no intercooler? garbage

>>13980920
Yeah forgot the Hellcats and GT500. But the past 10 years, it has only been a few top-trim muscle cars mostly.
>>13980500
>so many
Why are so many OPs know-nothing faggots?
Most dragsters I've seen use fuckhuge turbos.
>>13980938
setup above 10 psi they get their own mini inter cooler
>>13980536
They don't. Not a straight up factory option, but GM Performance parts has superchargers for all of the LS and LS based truck engines as well as the new LTs. And there are a million other aftermarket companies that sell twin screw and centrifugal superchargers
>>13980635
>>13980611
>>13980707
Wouldn't I need to redo the ECU?
>>13981192
not always.
most vehicles with blowers don't have an ecu.
Because supercharging a previously NA engine is way easier than turbocharging one.
nostalgia / sound / they look cool
all serious drag cars use turbos now unless the rules don't allow it.
>>13981233
>easy
Burgerlanders confirmed for lazy inefficient fucks
Because Amerifriends can't into good engines
>>13981341
>an engine that we designed in the 50s is competitive with modern euro veeates
>>13981220
what? Do they run off of fucking magic or something?
>>13981192
You would need to account for the massive extra air flow. It would probably peg your stock MAF out and you'd probably need new injectors, and a larger fuel pump as well, but a blower doesn't require any extra sensor inputs into the ecm. You would just need to set up a good fuel trim and perhaps retard timing just a tad depending on your compression ratio and fuel quality.

>Literally different in every way but the bore and stroke are maybe the same
