I'm not a car person but my babyboomer dad was just ranting about how modern vehicles have too much computer shit which inevitably breaks and makes maintenance a pain in the ass. The most recent car I've driven was from 2003 so I don't really have the experience to judge. But is my dad right, are modern cars a pain in the ass to work with?

tell him OBD 2 exist and to shut up

They're usually worse but not impossible to work on. Everything's just packaged real tight these days to not waste space which makes it less comfortable and more complex to get to stuff.

It doesn't.

Well I'd much rather work on a 1993 miata than a 2015 STi.
>that mess of tubes and wires

Pretty much this.
The computers (Usually) aren't the problem, it's the tight packaging of everything in a small space under the hood.

Old cars had tons of space using tiny pushrod engines in huge engine bays, now it's huge OHC engines in tiny engine bays.

I could live in the engine bay there's so much space.

I set up a block of plywood over the fenders to get comfy if I'm going to be in there a while

Had my spark plugs replaced, disconnected battery. The radio reset itself and I don't have the SD card required to reprogram it, dealership wants $500 just to reprogram the radio.

He's kinda right, touchscreen non-DIN infotainment units duck and will be a pain in the dick to replace in 10-15 years.

What >>13979987 said, but there's also the fact of life that old people have shit opinions.

It's gonna happen to us too, someday we'll be the old faggot going on about manual transmitions and the time when we actually drove our own cars.

He needs a replacement SD card required to use the radio/gps unit.

I'd just buy an aftermarket radio that connects to my phone and be done with it.
