So this is why the C7Zs are overheating.
800F Catalytic converter is 1.5in away from the oil cooler.
Every problem stems from this design error
a heat shield seems to work very well for those few people who acually track their C7Zs.

How is it that a company can put millions into designing a car and still fuck it up?

Americans invented the automobile, idiot

Pretty sure it was an Englishman. Just saying.

They're not.

There's not even an oil cooler in the picture.
>>
>>13969170
cuz it's not a muffler
that's a very hot Cat next to the oil cooler.

>>13969152 boomers don't track the car much so it works fine for the old people.
>>
>>13969185
Henry Ford was English?
>>
>>13969188
that's the factory oil cooler.
it routs engine coolant through a heat exchanger that heats up the oil when cold but keeps it below 2220F when driven on the street.
>>
>>13969200
Are you even trying?
>>
>>13969205
220F*
>>
>>13969208
No. But I did think Benz was credited with the first real interpretation of the modern car. I'm sure other people strapped an engine on wheels before that tho.
>>
>>13969205
I've seen some stupid shit in my day. But this takes the cake.
>>
>>13969213
You had it right at 2200ºF

the cadillac and Camaro teams figured it out.
yet the vette team did not.
I don't get how they spent 6 months running laps at the Nurburgring and did not change it.

Benz invented an engine on wheels. Pic related; not a car. Further investigation suggests that the first car was made by an American, but the first production car was manufactured by Daimler Company under English ownership. America also gets credit for the first mass produced car and the first car with a modern control layout.

Ah, never seen a water cooled oil cooler. I highly doubt the catalytic converter is a problem. The real issue is the way the car is tuned.q
>>
>>13969299

Even /o/s meme car the miata uses a coolant based oil cooler.

It's pretty fucking common.
>>
>>13969205
that is terribad placement....
>>
>>13969299
oil-to-water coolers are really common on Ferd and Chebby trucks in the US. I've also seen them on Mazdas and VW's of various ages.

Usually they're either sandwiched under the oil filter, or built into a radiator tank. The Corvette's setup, with a large cooler adjacent to the oil filter, is relatively unique. That cooler is 2-3x the size of the ones that I've seen in sandwich-type installations.

But there's no way that can sit 1.5" from the cat and not suck up exhaust heat.

220º when used with coolant
2200º when used with exhaust

>there are yuro-plebs who honto-ni believe that they invented the first car

Umm quick history lesson
Automobile is an American word.
I get that the Germans are still salty over back to back defeats in the World Wars, but lets not get delusional again. We wouldn't want you to think you stand a chance now that you've been pummeled back into the stone ages along with the rest of Europe.

According to topgear (shit source) first car with a modern 'pedals on the floor' approach was french

Question is what defines car, because originally it was 'motorized carriage' or 'horseless carriage'
>>
>>13969152
Because GM told its engineers that it needed to make a faster car than the ZR1 for about 50 grand less.

GM has hit a paywall.
>>
Seems like an easy enough fix at least, relocate the cat or ditch it entirely.

But why was this not found sooner?
>>
>>13970452
>america
>ditch the cat
literally impossible for a manufacturer to do
>>
>>13970470
I meant it as something the consumer could do. A fair amount of states have literally zero inspections, I don't have cats on my foxbody.
>>
>>13969873
The C7 was also rushed into production. The whole bail out situation meant that the C7 only had a fraction of its requested budget and several years of development time lost. Similar things have happened to past generation Corvettes except the C6. Now that GM is starting to get performance cars more seriously they need to give the Corvette a real halo car budget.
