Are the newer generation Impala SS any good? Aside for the FWD setup, is it a solid car? I am looking to get one as a winter beater and somewhat fun road car. Until today, I was unaware of GM making these with v8s.
>>

The transmission is absolute trash. Beat on the car or beat on the engine a lot and the transmissions will commit sudoku
>>
>>13968174

Are there aftermarket transmissions available for these? Are they a bitch to install?
>>
>>13968186
>Are there aftermarket transmissions available for these?
Yes
Are they a bitch to install?
Yes. That's something you should have a professional shop do.

The engine itself is bulletproof. It's a 5.3L LS V8. The Transmission was only ever meant to deal with a V6, and even the supercharged 3800 V6 commonly blew through them with 60 less HP than the V8.
ZZPerformance does performance variants of the transmission.

Right on, ill call around and see if there are any local shops willing to swap the transmissions.
>>
Why not just get a good car instead of buying a bad car and trying to make it good
>>
>>13968342

Any suggestions for a four door 300+ hp car under $10,000?

G35
Not sure if G37 is under 10K but if it is then that too

1995-96 Impala SS, same year Caprices, Mercury Marauder. First gen Hemi Chargers but they are unreliable.
>>
>>13968364

I have a feeling one of those will be difficult to find

>>13968382

Not fond of the LT1 garbage
>>
>>13968389
I found 4 G35s in my Craigslist and I live in bumfuck Indiana
>>
>>13968412

Is it a tried and true 300hp, because a lot of v6 imports are claiming that and I am having a hard time believing it.
>>
>>13968420
It's a 3.5L VQ35DE making like 280, 290 HP at best. Close enough. The G35 is a great car though 03-05 models had issues with the engine's oiling system, but they're pretty bulletproof aside from that.
>>
>>13968427

Thanks, I will look into the G35's too. Are infinities a good brand? Will I be able to find parts for them easily?
>>
>>13968433
Infiniti sedans are rebranded Nissan Skylines, and /o/ fucking loves Skylines

Infiniti is a luxury sub-brand owned by Nissan. parts are easy to come by.
I personally like the coupes, but the sedans are nice too. Too bad the AWD versions were automatic sedans only.
On the upside, all 2WD models are RWD unlike that Impala you were thinking of.
>>
Better off getting a new SS or one of the 2008 ones that were a pontiac.
>>
>>13968444

Hnngggg I saw they are RWD and also offered in a manual. I will probably buy auto though because it will be shared between me and my gf with possible uber/lyft use on weekends.

Not for under 10k.
The G8 sedans are still around 20k, and the SS sedan is 45k new.

>>13968458
Oh yea. Definitely something to get excited over. Still try to find a manual if your GF refuses to learn, dump the bitch and find one more open-minded. That's the same kind of woman who will try to force you into a crossover for 1 kid.
>>
>>13968466

I already have an LS1 camaro with a 6 speed so that fills the void
>>
>>13968475
Happy shopping then. :D
>>
>>13968466
i wish the g8 sedans were 20k
>>
>>13968466
Are you trying to give girlfriend advice? kek

Also you don't have to say G8 sedan, they are all sedans
>>
>>13968475
just buy a normal car then
holy shit i know, you can be a car guy and still drive a normal car who would of thought
>>
>>13968174
I've got one from 2007, can confirm that you cannot overwork the transmission too much. Still a pretty good car otherwise, just keep this in mind.
>>
>>13968382
A 96 impala had 260 hp. And a clean one is a hell of allot more than 10k. They are the supra of the old folk boats.
>>
>>13968686
The problem with those Impala SS's is the boomers who bought them as collectibles.
>oh it's a collector item
No it isn't. There's too many in good condition for it to be worth anything
>but muh Impala SS
You mean your appearance package. It's still a fucking Caprice on the title.

Those boomers refuse to admit the actual realistic value of their land yacht is around 6k.
>>
>>13968924
I thought it was nigs driving up the prices of these shitty things.
>>
>>13968936
Nope. Boomers. Niggers don't spend the money on a real Impala. They just buy a Caprice and order Impala badging
>tfw it's the same thing for about 8k less
>>
>>13968924
Well clearly someone is paying those prices for them.
>>
>>13968958
Yes. Other boomers.
>>
>>13968936
Nigs don't have enough money to drive up prices
>>
>>13968968
So it's an endless circle of boomers selling to other boomers?

Also I hate to burst your bubble but an appearance package can increase the worth of a car. Look at the 60s RS package Camaros

OP: i need a $10k 300hp RWD sedan
Ford: I got you f a m
>>

97-04 regal gs is your answer
>>
>>13968985
>So it's an endless circle of boomers selling to other boomers?
And retards stupid enough to pay the inflated prices.

>Also I hate to burst your bubble
No you don't

>but an appearance package can increase the worth of a car
I agree. Just look at the Buick Regal T-Type Grand National.
But there are too many Caprice Impala SS's around in good condition for them to be worth anything. Supply and demand buddy.
>>
>>13968996
You could probably squeez 300 horse out of a p71 if you dropped 5 or 6 grand into it, very doable considering your not paying more than 3k for the car. I wouldn't go the marauder route because they only made that for 2 years so its a collectors item, you're paying for scarcity more than performance
>>
>>13969013
>No you don't
You're right. I don't
>>
>>13968389
A lot easier to find than a special snowflake Impala
>>
>>13969540
Not sure where you are, but Impala SSs are all over my craigslist. Chevy made a bunch of them.
>>
>>13969133
It's also the heaviest being fully loaded and has extra sound deadening. OP didn't ask for performance though. He might just want a 300HP cruiser.

I was heavily looking at gxps and impala ss's but the transmissions scared me off.

I was looking for the same kind of car as you. I paid 9500 for my csrt4 and another 1500 for a 36k/3yr warranty that covers everything because the engine and trans are bulletproof but the rest is still general chrysler quality.

This.

There are so many of these out there in very good condition because everyone bought them with the intent of storing them. While some are extremely overpriced, there are still plenty out there for reasonable prices. My buddy just bought a DGGM with 70k miles for 6k and I see similar deals on CL and Autotrader regularly. It's just that the 12k cars sit online forever while the 5-7k ones actually sell leading people to believe the going rates are delusional asking prices.

If you aren't adverse to FWD, check out a 98-04 Cadillac STS.

They're just a tad slower than the 07+ SS and far more comfortable and luxurious. IMO they look much better as well.

HG's are an issue but you can buy one and get it studded for well under 10k and you'll have a far nicer car with a bulletproof engine and transmission.
