All right m/o/tards. Show us what shameful collection of shitboxes/old man sedans/dads truck/public transportation you were cruising around in in High School.

I bought this pile of shit when I turned 16 with my McDonalds shekels, and didn't sell it until I had already graduated.

Guess ill post my civic as well, even though I'm still driving it and I'm not out of highschool yet. Yes I'm 18. Also this car was bought used for a questionable amount of money that I'm still not sure of because my dad has not been consistent when I've asked him. It was bought for my brother when he was in sophomore year 5 years ago, then got handed down to me. I think it might have been riced before because it had both stock front and back bumpers poorly attached(one side of the back bumper was held on by glue while the screw was holding nothing.)oh and a dethreaded wheel cover bolts glued on. Basically most my problems are screws missing and nothing being attached correctly except for what is needed for it to run. My brother never realized any of this when he had it.

Friend of my dad. He was getting rid of it because he was getting a new company car, and it had over 100k miles. The real kicker, was that in was in some accidents. Nothing major, mostly just cosmetic, but that's what convinced him to sell it so cheaply. That and son of a friend, so he was feeling generous that day. Clearly you don't live in a rural area. It's a necessity if you want ANY sort of independence.

I paid 2 grand for a 2000 Chrysler Cirrus, rusted rockers, didn't pass a legal safety (got some garage to forge one), and I fucking loved it. Bondo and respray, drove it for about 100k km, only put about 1.5k into it over the years (two sets of tires, one set of front pads, oil twice a year).

Had it since I was 15. Bought it before I had my learners, on loan from the family friend that sold it, paid over that year. Parents drove it for the first year since their car was worse, then drove it until 4th year uni when some brake lines failed and cost too much to replace.

Don't project your over privileged shit on the rest of us.

How could brake lines cost too much? You could buy enough brake lines to redo the entirety of pretty much every vehicle for about $30, a few unions for ten bucks, and some brake fluid for about another ten. Sounds like a poor excuse to get rid of a car.

78 Firebird Espirit.
Pic is not mine, looked the exact same though.
Had a shitty 305, swapped for a mild 350 with Flowmaster, shift kit, etc.
Bought for $2200, still got it but it's all torn apart in the garage. Kids etc means no time to work on it.

Had a lot of great times in that thing.
>>
>>13969288
>excuses

I call bullshit. When I was a kid my father and I completely restored an 81, built a SB 400, and made a 12 second drag car out of a $500 firebird. He worked third shift at a factory, and then helped run my mom's small business after he got off work. There is no reason you can't get to work on yours.
>>
>>13969247
One line burst but all the lines were rusted as shit. Would have had to replace it all.

I don't have a lift, and at the time didn't have an indoor garage, so good luck with that in the winter while needing to get to work.

Replacing the line generally turns into replacing all the things the lines are connected to (otherwise you're still leaving rusted bits of old line. Good fucking luck disconnecting from the boosters and calipers etc when they're as rusted as they were).

Shop quoted me between $500 and $1500 depending on what I wanted to replace and how much would have disintegrated when removing stuff. Car wasn't worth 500, let alone more. There's a point of diminishing returns.

Not to mention needing new brakes and rotors, power steering pump making noises, alignment needed, basically another grand or so before it's back to normal.

Possibly spending more in repairs than I spent on buying it years earlier/100k km ago? No thanks.

I didn't really have a car to myself till i turned 18. Getting a car at 16 is odd unless you have a job or got it handed down to you where i live.

Yeah I got my first car at 19, and it was given to me by a friend's dad. My parents couldn't afford to get me a car, and I was lazy in HS and barely worked. But I live in a wealthy town, so there were plenty of kids with Bimmers and Mustangs and such. Spoiled cunts.

Nigger... Of course I've had shitboxes, exclusively. That's why I know how to slap together a fix and move on. Like I said, you could have replaced all the lines for under a hundred. As for your workspace and the weather, that's up to your level of gumption. I for one can very rarely afford to replace a car, so I muscle through and fix ANYTHING. That's how I learned how to rebuild a transmission. For the rest, unless the rotors were completely fucked (if so that's your fault) you didn't need them. Pads are ten bucks. Power steering is unnecessary if you're broke, take the belt off the pump and drive. Brake lines don't go to the booster BTW, they go to the master cylinder, they weren't rusted there, I promise. Fuck alignment, get some rope and a tape measure.

Maybe it's just because I live in Canada where prices are generally higher for the same parts, but your numbers are way off. Like, a quarter type off.

Could have got shit cheaper online, but I refer you back to needing to get to work (hence waiting on parts, just to have to try to tear it all down in a snowy parking lot, wasn't a very good option).

Sometimes saving money ends up costing more, just a fact. I bought a different car for 3 grand and I haven't put a dime into it other than oil for over 2 years.

My rule with cars is that they should cost me ~1k plus insurance and gas per year. More than that means I should stop dumping money into it and get a different one.

If this was my alternate car? Absolutely. Would do it as cheap and dirty as possible, because I don't rely on it. I would completely agree with you. But it wasn't. So I don't.

Like seriously, show me a few feet of brake lines costing $120+. I know we have autozones in Canada, they have valuecraft pads for ten bucks. Seriously, you're not even trying.

>$10 valuecraft pads
It's like you're trying too hard.

Just because you 'can' do something, doesn't mean you 'should'.

If you have no other choice, you should. Those have a one year warranty, change them out every eleven months, you'll always have new pads.
