I know it was gutless, slow, and stuff, but it just made me happy to drive it around.
It did not have A/C, had the crappy 3 speed auto that was geared to the moon assuring you would never be able to get a speeding ticket, carb often unloaded at idle and would flood out the motor unless you constantly blipped the throttle at red lights. It was a terrible hunk of junk and i loved every minute i spent in that car.
I was sad to see it go, and regrettably sold it after getting a Z31. If i were to win the lotto, or come into some money, I would love to find a 5-speed Accord to get restored and drive the shit out of it. to everyone else its a shitbox econo car that was bad at performance, and economy... but to me it is just impossible to drive without smiling.

i dont know : the Z31 is a bad performance car, but it had comfy seats, every amenity you could want in an 80's GT car.
It was a reliable car for me, i have some 240k miles on mine with the following parts replaced in the engine bay : Alternator (finally died last year), Water Pump belt Pully (lost the bearings, drove it 90 miles with no issues after loosing the belt) Water pump (it had issues during the same stent) and valve cover gaskets that were designed to drip oil directly onto the headers when they leaked.
Other than wear parts (shocks, belts) its never been serviced. People can hate on the z31 for what its not....but they never seem to realize it was never intended to be anything other than a GT. Same motor and Trans were used in the Narava and Xtrail with very limited changes for nearly 20 years.

Around cities/larger villages and the more populated roads they typically salt so fucking much you wouldn't believe it
In the more rural parts they'll usually just plow and scrape, plus grit for the steeper areas and tightest corners. Also in large parts of Norway, like my hometown, its never really warm enough for salt to be used during winter time so there isn't a point to it

sometimes small cars are economical and practical, others they are not. The miata is not really economical compared to other cars of the time, its not practical compared to those same cars either. AW11 MR2 was faster, handled better, and had more storage space, while getting 10mpg better on the highway for the NA model. CRX handled pretty good, was more roomy, had a nice little hatch, and returned something close to 45mpg highway.
The joy of a miata is the "sportyness", not its over all utility. I like them, they are fun cars. But I do other things in a car beside transport 2 people. The trunk is barely big enough for a backpack and laptop bag after the spare tire eats nearly half of it. Maybe a single overnight bag if you are lucky.
