reposting what I posted in other thread

I know I'm a faggot but I'd like to get into adventure riding

Here's me
>6 foot 4 inches, 220 pounds
>tons of camping, outdoors, hiking, experience
>Budget of 8k for a used bike
>will be adventure riding in south US + Mexico and more if I can, budget travel, camping
>Will also be riding winding roads in the Texas hill country + offroad practice on friends land

Which bike should I get? I was looking at the 650s and I think they're right for me but I was wondering how easy they are to repair, how much work they'd need if I got say a 2012 model at stock

I would like:
>easy to repair
>parts are easy to find in shops
>easy riding for a tall guy
>not need too many upgrades if I'm buying stock

A guy suggested a V-Strom 650 and I found this ad
http://www.cycletrader.com/dealers/Cycle-Rider-Inc.-2886878/listing/2011-Suzuki-V-Strom-650-ABS-115282388
Which seems to be a good deal, what do you think of this bike?

If you actually want to go camping etc the KLR is like 50kgs lighter than the dl650. That will make it easier to handle when offroad and less tiring.

My DL1000 takes it out of me just on the easier stuff. Wish I had of kept my KLR sometimes. But I just wanted more powah.
>>
>>13960348
Thats not what wranon said.
>>
>>13960347
I am tempted by a "motorbike look" scoot.

I will eventually get a more powerful scoot, but i don't really want a maxiscooter, the point of a scoot is city use and maneuverability. Kymco just released the People 300, a much less ugly and more powerful version of what i'm riding now (kymco people 150), when they drop in price (7k for a scoot? bugger off) i might grab one if i can find a used one.

That's good

I'm not so sure about the KLRs liquid cooling since (in my newbie mind) it just leaves more parts to break, does the liquid cooling actually matter? Did anyone's ever break down?

>>
>>13960369
Just get a gs500. Its better in every way
>>
>>13960378
It's a matter of personal opinion in the end
I grew tired of overheating and switched over to a liquid cooled bike and never had a problem, but there are more parts that can go wrong, even if it's unlikely
>>
>>13960366
This is my dream scoot right now

300cc engine in that thing, gets up to 170kph, looks like a pretty normal scoot, nothing screams "PERFORMANCE" sop it's a bit stealthy. and I am riding around on an older 150cc engine version

I could get one, ride away, for 6k... nah, saving for a Chinese trip
>>
>>13960378
it is more for you to break, in say the event of a crash but liquid cooling very very rarely just springs leaks or breaks.
i opt for airheads for trail bikes since i know theres a good chance of me dumping them and breaking a radiator.
>>
>>13960393
I already have a bike thats good.

I wanted this to ruin it, someone could actually use a gs500
>>
>>13960378
I never had trouble with my klr's cooling system in the 4 years I had it. Just keep up the proper maint on it and you should be fine.

In unrelated news, how are scoots that don't have the flat foot-well, like they have a "spine" running through them? like this or a Burgman. i have only ridden scoots with totally flat footwells. these might be getting a bit "big" and lose the advantages of a little scoot, but i'm not really sure.

I used to have a scooter with a spine. A 2013 Honda PCX 150. The only downfall to the spine is not being able to hang your grocery bags down the middle there anymore. But that's what the underseat storage is for. Also, it keeps your posture from not making you look like a faggot while riding, compared to having your knees together on those spineless scooters.

Seriously if you're not into sportbikes or sport riding in general and you want something practical and fast the T-Max will out perform and out handle pretty much everything else on twisty roads and traffic light.
That's because tricks like CVT, long wheelbase, small wheels make the scooter easier to exploit 100% of its performance.

Cats climb the plants or use the ladder or whatever to get inside, they pee everywhere then climb back and they're gone.

I'm sure the 500 exc or maybe even all the way up to the 690 might be a better fit if you're planning on "dual sporting" rather than just going apeshit all the time because the 450's are apeshit bikes.

Ideally I'd want something super easy to work on myself (/I have experience with jap bikes in general. And. Somewhat know them )

DR650 with stock or tighter gearing fits that bill. I put a 16/42 setup on mine so 1st and 2nd are actually usable, but the 14/44 setup it had when I bought it was pretty damn zippy. You could consider it a bit "agricultural," it kind of sounds like a tractor and has plenty of torque, it's simple, aircooled, and just good all around.

There are a couple of weak points. For instance, some people don't like how soft the rear shock and spring are. Easy to swap for something stiffer, but I don't mind it myself. I only weigh 165 lbs and will usually only carry a bag or pack with 20lbs or less. There is some sort of silliness with the neutral sender, but that's fixed by the use of a dab of loctite on the two little screws it uses. Prob best to do that during an oil change so you have less mess to deal with. Other than that, grunty, fun, and simple. I have had it down 8 times now (2 doing really low speed parking lot drills, 6 on dirt/mud/sand) and it has given no fucks except for a broken mirror, tweaked handle bar mount (known to be a bit weak), and a bent shift lever that I bent back out with a flat rock.

It's really anti competitive at least to my outside looking in appearance, hey, maybe these companies were just going to fold anyway, I don't know, but I don't really appreciate them just buying out any competitive european enduro bikes then splitting up the KTM's into different colours and trim levels and pretending they're 3 different brands now.

So yeah, KTM is not really something I totally want to fund right now, just like harley is blacklisted forever for fucking over based erik.

What's your guys opinion on the Yamaha MT-07 (FZ-07)? Looking to get a new bike for my daily driver. Looking at the MT-07 and the Ninja 650. Will have a lot city driving but I'll also so some longer road trips on it.

I rode a '12 Ninja 650 before but never any of the FZ bikes. Both are pretty much the same price here. The CBR650F is also in the same price range.
>>
>>13961029
Suspension is literal shit. CB650 is probably one of your best options. I'd also suggest looking at Suzuki's lineup since they're pretty good at making their bikes comfortable.
>>
>>13961029
Good engine, revs up very quick, very comfortable ergos, throttle has like an 80 degree pull + quick revving engine + low gearing + good torque = lots of power wheelies.

It has a really springy sproingy front shock though and there's no preload adjustment whatsoever (why), you can feel it "digging" into the corner with the front on turn in.

I would go with the CBR650F if I had the option, it has nearly as much down low power as the MT (seriously close) but is smoother and revs out further.
>>
>>13961044
All the reviews I read said the Yamaha performed better than the SV650's which isn't why I even considered them. I'd love to get a GSXR600 but they're ridiculously more expensive here (more expensive than what I paid for my GSXR1000 back home).

I'll try to get one out for a test ride though. Only Honda I've rode was a 600RR, but the 650F is a nice looking bike.

Took the 1125r out last night since it's now rained enough to get rid of the salt from when it snowed a couple weeks ago. It was raining but not too bad so I figured as long as I wore my leather jacket I'd be fine and not freeze since it's somehow still 40F in wisconsin. Didn't wear my boots and got my feet a little wet on the way to work. Still wasn't raining bad when I got off work, so I decided to run over to Walmart to get some creatine. Come out and it's just pouring buckets...in 40F weather. Fuck. And then it started hailing a little halfway home. I get home completely soaked except for my dick, head, (no fucking way I'd be riding without a helmet in these temps) and chest. Since it's vaguely nice today I shall ride when I get off work.

Go for it. I jumped directly on a GSXR1000 after about 10-12 hours riding a 250 Ninja. Rode it for 3 seasons without a problem.

Just don't pound on the throttle too hard until you get use to it. A 600 supersport isn't that bad if you at least have some experience riding.

If I could find a good condition ZX6R here for that price I'd be all over it instead of looking at CBR500R/CBR650F and an MT-07.

Not gonna lie, they look pretty sweet. Price point compared to Harley and Victory (at least in Canukistan) is quite nice. And I can't lie, the 111ci motor in the Dark Horse is pretty fucking awesome. Harley just came out with the 'S' model Softail/FatBoy to compete , but they made them like 5k$ more expensive, and still with less power. I can build a 124'ci bike for the 21k$ Harley's asking for a 110 and still have change left over, or I can just buy the Dark Horse for 16k$ and be content with what its got.

And air-cooled, low-end power will never go away. Cheap grunt and cheaper maintenance never goes out of style, which is good for us poorfags/chopperfags that want new motors besides old-ass Evos and CB/XS stuff.

Seems in my disgust I replied to the wrong guy. Hue hue hue.

At least the 700cc one can actually back up the claims of being quick, the guy posting the 300cc triggered my autism like you wouldn't believe.

No, I wear it all the time with 2 exceptions. Once when I got my haircut on the bike, and once when I visited my friend and went full squid up in La Crosse . I wore shoes instead of sandals though. I assume that half the people here don't wear a helmet despite the memes, I decided to clarify. The webms I've posted in the past are from the interesting parts of my rides and I have my go pro on all the time, which is helmet mounted.
