Its the air pump on the front of the engine that feeds in extra air on cold starts, it's a huge part of the emissions system.....I literally just went out and took a picture of the engine in my E320. My ML 430 has the exact same setup. Do Euro spec cars not have the secondary air injection system?

It's just plug the computer into the OBDII port, and if there are no codes, you pass.

The annual safety inspection is a joke as well.

Possibly. Depends on the model year, the issue with the car, and whether it will illuminate the check engine light once the system is ready.

Might work for removing some of the evap system that isn't cycling all the time but removing things like the after cat 02 sensor will immediately throw a code, you need to simulate the signal

>>13950837
yeah, it's very much of a 'if you know a guy" situation with emissions testing here in NC. If you have a connection in a shop, you never have to worry about passing.

Basically, state inspection is a way for shops to try and drum up business every year with car-ignorant people.

>oh man looks like you need new brake pads or I can pass you on inspection!
>hey lady, those ball joints are in rough shape, gonna need to get those replace to get through inspection

Yeah, because air rushing in at 300cfm through a plastic pipe that's still cool enough to touch is going to transfer any measurable heat...
I'm willing to bet any difference in intake temps is completely offset by the weight of the insulation tape.

Fucking this. My turbo shitbox has the catalytic converter in the downpipe. Got a high flow cat to replace it and started throwing the P0420 code i think it was - cat not working properly. Lost my mind trying to fix it, but ended up just turning the code off. Passed testing with no issues. Makes me wish I just got a catless pipe.

Annual emissions and inspections blow, just another way for the state to collect taxes.

There isn't tho, they just cram shit in there so you can't see that it's actually just a REALLY tightly wound rubber band that wears out after 100000 miles, then you take it in for service and they rewind it.

Also a comparatively decent engine bay to fiddle around in compared to the RB25's and 26's. There where some parts that aren't so great around the manifold/turbo area where you kind of have to be careful when ripping stuff off or running piping (or it catches on fire) but aside from that, whole top end was easy to get to.

In this setup (VEMS+DCCD gearbox) 3.3l n/a H6 putting out approx 270HP it is definitely superior to EJ20 H4 with turbo, because there is no turbo lag and it pulls even at 1500rpm (really cool for dinamic city driving where you don't want to go full throttle all the time). WRX Imprezas don't stand a chance, haven't tried to race any STi`s though.

Plus I wanted a car that goes but doesn`t draw much attention (I have no scoop and spoiler is going next year).
>>
>>13954959
