Hey /o/ so I'm going to be home the next month off from work. One of the activities I want to do is learn how to drive a manual. I figure I could just buy a cheap old manual car and learn with that during this time. Any brands/makes you guys recommend? Budget is like, I dunno, 2-3k?

THANKS

Kill yourself, and stop trying to get OP to waste money on cars that habitually breakdown.

Buy a Toyota Turdcel, or some other decent jap car. Toyota pickup if you want a truck.

I also wanna note that I don't plan on junking the car I buy once i learn how to drive manual. I'd LIKE to keep it, but if a shitty car comes up at real cheap, then I may just but it, learn with it and then junk it.

Honda and toyota are going to be the cheapest to buy and maintain, and the most reliable. Find one that's in good shape. Mileage doesnt always matter with those cars, it's about whether or not the previous owner took care of them

OP here. Found this old Jetta with 127k miles. Guy says it "needs a bettery but starts with a jump". Looks solid, I like the color. It's close by too. "Need to sell ASAP" means I can talk him much lower. Whaddya think?

rent it, you can learn manual in five days tops, not more, less if there's someone to teach you.

Your are going to learn some coordination between your feet and your left hand, not getting the private pilot license.

I was actually going to call hertz and see if they have any manual cars. Thing is, what if I can't even get myself out of the parking lot? Lmao

Bump for more input.

I bought this for $700 and it has 187,000 glorious miles

The dash cracks if you look at it funny

You have to tap on the odometer to get it to work

Anti roll bars are considered an optional extra leading to hilarious amounts of body roll

Radiator fan is to small to keep the engine cool while trying to drive around in a parking lot (ask me how I know)

Even though it's a manual the tach was considered an optional extra

But as far as fun to drive you couldn't take it from me if you tried

I learned on a camaro, easy light pick up trucks are also easy. Think s10 Ford ranger, cheap and easy.
Seems like decent power, light weight is such more forgiving..
Also a cheap pick up cam be sold quickly, unless you want to keep it.

Samefag here.
Sounds like you got some money and are willing to learn(grats br/o/)
Your willingness and desire are the key, just keep in mind you may like this shit box. Ain't nothing wrong with that, toots.
I'd gonpick up route, sit upright, minor tire spin is less embarrassing than stalling, don't have to worry about visibility while learning, and civics are faggy.

I know /o/ mentioned Honda & Toyota, but what are the feelings towards Mazda?

There's a Mazda 6 with 165k miles selling for $1700. I can afford that. Looks like a nice car too.
