A family friend is selling me his 92 Celica for a cool $1300. How are these for a first car? What should I be on the lookout for?

its a 90s toyota
should pretty much run forever if you dont beat the shit out of it
>>
That's a good first car. Should be pretty dependable. If it's a great it's kind of a little faster. A far superior choice to a 1000 dollar Saturn ls
>>
id do it
>>
^ if it's a gt***** not a great:( damn predictive text iPhone

Auto or manual?
>>
>>13930314
My mum had one of these for a while, just with basic, regular servicing and 100k-services it was nearing 280,000km by the time she sold it and far as I know is still going.
Brake pads, worn disks, clutch-play, front wheel bearings are about the only things that seem to wear out regularly. About the only other things I've ever see die on them is stuff like thermo fans and sensors, but that's because its a fucking old car and shit will eventually die.

It's manual.
>>

DO IT ANON
>>
I got one as my first car 7 years ago. now it has like 360000 km and its still running. You'll always know where the end of the hood is because of the pop-ups:)
>>
Go for it anon, and god speed
>>
Even better if it's a manual. Buy it op, it's a great little car. Don't expect comfort though, that shit rattles like crazy though
>>
Check for rust this is the main issue with any old car and especially old Toyotas. If i remember correctly, rear wheel arches are a common area for these to rust badly.

wrong

What is a reply
>>
>>13930314
I would do it. Not a super fast or handle well but a good little first car. It's one good looking car for sure too.

GT?
>>
Didn't celicas have an issue with oil burning? Or was that just the later models
>>
>>13931822
From my experience the majority of 90s japanese cars burn oil in some amount, you shouldn't worry about it.
>>
>>13931921
*all old cars burn oil

seals go bad, rings go bad, its inevitable.
>>

>>13931921
Yeah, my 98 prelude eats oil.

What is wrong about this? Is there another place those cars rust which is more common? Have had a few Toyotas and they have all been worse rust buckets than any of my other cars.
