Discuss your worst automotive purchases.

Pic related- My velosturd. As a DD it serves its purpose with OK gas mileage, but other than that not a huge fan of it.

Well the manufactures at Hyundai took all the bad reviews and kinda just squeezed them into empty spaces around the vehicle.

What's with all the hate? Current gen Elantra and Sonata are both good in their class.
>>
>>13928885
but it's not
it's a decent choice if you want an econobox but they're trying to market it as "sporty" and "fun"
it's not a hot hatch, yet they try to convince you that it is
so people buy one, thinking they'll get a fun, sporty car
instead they get a mediocre econobox
it's shit
>>
>>13928943
Their newer cars are alright, some of the better appliance-tier ecoboxes these days. Don't expect a fun drive though, only the Genesis comes close to that.

They fixed the hideous front. And they have a truck version.
What's more, these things are actually surprisingly good off-road. They're basic as fuck so there's not much to go wrong, and if something does it's easy to fix. Another side effect is that they're insanely cheap.
The only downsides are the horrible safety rating and the fact that they're not exactly refined cars, but fuck, they seem like almost ideal workhorses.

I bought a Passat once.

I thought I needed something good and economical, and I could do without driving fun if it meant saving money. But it was so catastrophically boring that I sold it after only 6 months.

It WAS really good on gas mileage though. Pic isn't mine, but same year and color.

It wasn't crap, it was a great bike.

I regret it because of this. Freak accident from debris on the road in the middle of a corner and then a 10-15 foot drop into a ditch and a fence. Ruined my ankle for forever.
>>
>>13928885
>the veloster turbo is great, fuck off

Hyundai technician here; it's shit.

It's an accent with a go-fast body, a motor that can barely get out of it's own way WITH a turbo, backed up with a terrible transmission.

>>13928943
>What's a good Hyundai?

A well taken care of Elantra RD, or anything with a Beta I.
>>
>>13929205
Oh christ, a grey one, too. You really got the most boring of all boring grey sedans on the market, anon. Good for people that just want to get from A to B, terrible if you're looking for fun.

I bought a 1972 Pontiac Lemans Sport Convertible (auto, 5.8L v8), with 86,000 miles and almost everything completely original and running but in desperate need of repair and cleaning, and shoved it in my garage where it has sat for 3 years.

>Is the 2007 3.8 V6 reliable?

If you don't mind spending money at the dealer on maintenance; yes

If you don't, 100% reliability it will eventually start to leak oil from the front valve cover onto the alternator. After that it'll leak from the timing cover. Also the power steering pump high pressure lines are known to leak.

>>13929308
>2008 Sonata

Don't see too many of them roll through for anything but LOFs and maintenance.

>>
>>13928622
disappointing, i like the look of them.
>>
>>13929378

I test drove the non-turbo one when I was looking for a new DD and it was god fucking awful and that's from someone who DD'd an '05 Accent for 8 years.
>>
>>13929360

Most of them aren't all that bad, save a few.

The Entourage is probably the worst thing Hyundai ever made, they fall apart and they suck to work on.

The Veloster is literally an accent made to look fast.

Anything with the dual clutch trans in it gives people the impression that the transmission is slipping - it's literally an automatically shifted manual - yet they refuse to comprehend that's normal.

The Accents, Elantras, Sonatas, Tucsons and Santa Fe's are pretty good as long as you keep up on the maintenance.

The SUVs (Veracruz, tucson, santa fe) eat brakes every ~30k because they're pretty heavy.

The Genesis cars are fun. The Equus cars are neat, but expensive.

I don't have much experience with the hybrid cars, but I personally don't care for any hybrids.
>>
>>13929332
what about the Entourage in general?
>>
>>13929455
I never heard of this Entourage model.
Are you telling me that the Accent is better than Veloster?
>>
>>13929477

See >>13929455

>>13929508
>the Accent is better than Veloster?

Yes; it's an entry level econobox instead of an expensive entry level econobox tarted up to look fast.
>>
>>13929088

Its an R6 and not an R1...
>>
>>13929378
First time I saw one was at the Phoenix auto show before release. Thought that it was pretty different and looked like hyundai was moving into the right direction. How wrong I was.

Do Koreans ever participate in motorsports? Seems like Japan got their shit together when they got competitive. I can't see a legitimate sports car coming out of Korea right now.
>>
>>13929378
I think they look pretty good actually, but yeah after driving one for a couple of months it isnt that great
>>
>>13929455
The funny thing is that when i bought my velosturd the dealer gave me a bad battery. I didn't find that out till i found myself shit out of luck 40 minutes away from home.
>>
>>13929572
I think hunday has their own rally team but I could be talking out of my ass. But yeah I had the same impression of the veloster

>>
>>13928795
It was a bad decision for a number of reasons.

1. I bought an old C900 Saab. Most of the engineering on this car is ass-backwards. Parts are way too expensive and difficult to service.

2. It can't really do more than go fast in a straight line and a lot of cars do that better. It handles like shit on most corners.

3. If you try to sell this thing back to the hipster Saab fanboys, most of them won't even take it if it isn't 100% immaculate. Actual people know to stay away from these pieces of Swedish shit like the plague.

In short, I have to give this car away because selling it seems impossible

>>13929690

Why? I was complimenting him.
>>
>>13929031

Worst for me was 2010 mazda 3. Was replacing an older 6 cylinder falcon. Falcon was sold after much whinging by the wife about how much fuel it used (i was happy to get rid of it had 300k kilometres on it was a bit tired) bought the mazda 3 cause a family member was selling at a very good price. The 3 ended be more expensive to run than the falcon, fuel usage was slightly better but servicing costs and all the things that fucked up on it (TCM went at 30k klms). The interior is complete garbage quality, the doors are heavy as fuck to open and close compared to the falcon it replaced and the air con cant handle an australian summer. For the life of me i cant see how this became the highest selling car in Australia
>>
>>13929646
im the OP you retard
>>
>>13929221

I don't know why the veloster is so slow. I have a forte 5 with the same engine and can run a 6.3 but yet the veloster runs a 7
>>
>>13929207
Sorry to hear that, well if it makes you feel better, i'm going to be riding a moto in NYC so i'll probably have a life expectancy of 1-2yrs.
>>
>>13929559
I really dont see a point of a having an overpowered bike especially in NYC. its not like i'm going to be able to gun as there's too much traffic here.
