So, i just got my drivers license and i'm looking to buy my first car. My budget is very limited but i don't need anything fancy. just something thats fairly reliable and pulls low gas. i'd drive it to work daily about 30 min there, 30 min home. and other shorter trips.
I live in Sweden and my budget is around 30.000sek (roughly $3500) i've been looking at vw golf but i don't know much about cars. What would you guys recommend that i look at? and any general tips when buying used cars? Extra nerd bonus if i can get a car from initial d.

What is the craigslist equivalent for Scandinavia anyways? Do you guys have to pay emissions and displacement taxes up there?
Gathering from my trips to Europe I saw very little Japanese made vehicles on the road. I've heard stories of rust issues back in the day ruining their reputation.

Mark 4 Golf is a good shout, owned one for 9 years, never let me down. It was a standard 1.6, I expect a thrashed old GTi will be less hassle-free.
