That sound is called compressor surge. It's generated when the air has nowhere to escape, thus spinning the turbo backwards and making that sound. This is horrible for the lifespan of the turbo and can quickly snap the turbine's shaft.

not even close. the air just decompresses back through the vanes, the shaft doesn't suddenly reverse direction.

If it's not under load it doesn't hurt much, hence why F6 dose from the factory and their GT35s only need a quick rebuild at about 150,000kms.
