I just fucking got why the show becomes so stall after the 4th stage and at the 1st stage. This might apply to wangan nights too. Street racing is JUST a plot device for these kind of shows. You could make an anime entirely made out of racing and it would be the most boring shit ever. The only reason why this anime is interesting, and if you check your "favorite stages" you will know why, its because sometimes the anime becomes a slice of life in wich the idea of racing takes a backseat (no pun intended... Ok maybe a little).
When the anime focuses about the lives of the characters themselves and what they go through the anime just becomes so much more interesting, when there is a conflict, something to look up for. When there is a race, dialogue is the only reason not to skip it, after all, EVERYTHING boils down to "Takumi beats this guy because he is the best driver in the world no matter what and if someone gave his corolla wings he could destroy the death star just by turning his headlights off and sneaking in".
Its a shame that the anime didn't took a more serious approach tho. Sometimes it just likes to go somewhere stupid like Ryosuke actually being a former leader of a group of thugs.

i would love to see a show that got increasingly technical and has characters that make decisions that actually affect outcomes and their lives.
im not even sure how that would work but i greatly enjoy watching aaron cake documenting building his cosmo, so i imagine that aspects of that mixed with a story could be great.
scenes of engineers discussing problems with mechanics that actually included the conversation and not as a montage would be great. treating the viewer as if they are an adult, not a child who cant understand real things and only relates to dramatic representations would be great.
