What is the best tire and why is it the Pilot Super Sport?
Also general tirefag thread, where you get to shit on others for their poor tire choices.

Nitto nt05rs on my WRX
I wish they offered them in 16's....
>>13921672
Does it have to be Michelin?
>>13921687
Well you have the Michelin PS3s, PS2s, Potenza S001s.
Shit depends on your budget, anon-kun
Tires like that make no sense to me, just the worst of all worlds, either get a slick, a 60-200TW tire if your class requires it, or a tire that's actually nice on the road and lasts a long time. I tried out some Trofeo Rs last week and they seemed like a good track/street tire, launched a lot of stuff into the wheelwells but not too bad. For classics in the same category the Avon CR6ZZs look really nice, haven't tried them though, might get them for my car.
>>13921722
I've got no idea how they perform but they sure as fuck look nice.
>>13921722
Slicks are straight up illegal in Europe for road use kek.
Bridgestone RE-71R. On tar patches it sounds like velcro unsticking itself from the road.
>>13921746
My mouth is watering
Are 225's generally the best tire width for an 8 inch wheel? I want zero stretch.
What's a tire that has decent longevity and decent grip? I don't need extreme anything. Wheels are 15's.
>>13921728
The Avons? From what I read on the Cobra and GT40 forums they are extremely sticky, most people get 5-7k miles out of them. Unfortunately in my size they are $400 ea, but when you compare them to other ultra soft DOT radials like Trofeo Rs and Hoosier R7s it's not too crazy of a price
>>13921784
225 is a bit small. 235 is probably optimal.
>>13921784
>>13921803
actually i take that back, 225 looks about perfect. you will probably have issues finding anything wider at that size anyway.
>>13921668
depends. Some falkens are pretty gud, but others are utter shit. which ones are you looking at?
What's better? Pirelli P Zero or Michelin PSS?
>>13921766
They're loud, won't last long, and will probably hydroplane and kill me, but the grip is amazing. They let go progressively, too. Great tires.
>>13921746
They don't look durable AT ALL.
Bet they wouldn't last even one skid.
>>13921830
p-zero covers multiple tyre designs

Continental ExtremeContact DW's
I have some dunlop direzzas that I got at wholesale price. They're really good tires imo. I have less than 150 miles on them, breddy gud dailys.
My tires are from 1993.
Is there anywhere that I can order tires from that are cheaper than Tirerack or Discountire?
>>13921973
Mah nigga, I got the same tires and size on my prelude. Great for daily use and backroads fun for the price.
>>13921911
This. conti extremes are the next best thing.
>>13921973
dunlop a shit. They're basically goodyears but worse.

MPSS ride nicely and last 30k miles. They might not grip as well as the best 200TW tires but they are good enough for the occasional AutoX or HPDE
tried the Michelin Energy for my Daily drive. Kinda neat, 40000km and they still look new. And good grip under the rain.
Let's hope it doesn't snow though...
Do you guys think I can put off getting new tires for another few months, or nah?
>>13922400
still tread? go ahead
>>13922427
That's what I was thinking.
>>13922400
Think you need an alignment my friend
>>13922287
Yes, "max performance summer tire".
You'll be fucked on any sort of small grade, much less searching for grip on flat land.

>meaty 275's
What is your Camaro pushing these days in terms of horse power? You'll love the rubber.
>front tire wear after roughly 16,000 miles
Not too bad considering the fucking P Zeros were bald when I picked the car up at 19,000 miles.
>>13922305
Pirelli at this point to me is nothing but a badge. I don't really understand why you'd put any P Zero on your car apart from probably the Trofeo R's but I have no personal experience with that tire.
>>13922499
>he doesn't want -1.5° camber for SICK cornering speeds and Gs
pls reconsider yourself
>>13922550
If you were actually driving it hard with that camber it'd wear a little more evenly :^)
>>13922544
I'd guess mid 200s hp and high 200s tq. Now that I have the chassis stuff done I can do the wiring harness and start doing power upgrades. Still have to bleed the front brakes and put the g-braces back on. I have to be good for 500 miles though because new posi

Unless you're talking about LEGO tires (the most-produced tires in the world!), that's downright dangerous.

Yes. Not because of snow specifically, but because of temperatures close to or below freezing.

I thought dunlop was owned by Bridgestone now
too lazy to google
Michelin Energy XM2, 185/65R15 because small econobox.
No complaints, does good in everything I drive them on, apparently they can absorb shocks and shit, and I'm aware Ive hit one too many pot holes in this beaten to shit streets of mine that should damage them but nothing so far.
Noisy as fuck tho, gravel sticks to them and then its a grinding sound that goes with you everywhere. They do great on wet roads too.
real men drive on slicks
>>13921664
very decent, but the best? Idk
Consumer reports rating here
The best tire is the R-comp with the cheapest price tag.
You will never reach the absolute limits of an R-comp tire on the street and if you're on the track you should be using slicks, period.
>>13922656
I just have standard alloys, don't want to buy wheels until I can afford a good price/quality setup to pair with decent suspension.
>hankook ventus rs-3
>not using pilot powers
casuals
>>13923283
Idk that I completely agree with that. Depends on what your priorities are. Generally agree with the notion that you should just run the most cost effective tire that you've decided is "sticky enough."
4 335 R888s installed for 300/tire. Would rather be using a proper slick at the track but the R888s are just super cost effective for now.
r888 unless its cold and and/or wet

They are shit dont even hook in 3rd and overpriced as fuck
They are bald now I will get a set of R888s in the same size
i wish they made the federal RS-Rs in a 300mm+ width
I run them on my supra and they are great
Pilot super sports are insane in price in the larger sizes but its a good tire
They are over $500 each in the size I need
>>13923283
No best tire for cost is the Federal RS-R
they run 75$~(195/50/15) to 150$~ (285/30/18)
Its not a R compound but its very close with 140 treadwear rating
They grip very well straight line and in corners
Wear is badish but its also around 1/3 the cost of a similar sized R compound

Onlinetires.com
Cheapest tires I have found online and they have a larger selection compared to tirerack or any other tire website
A lot of tires come with free shipping too which is normally 30$~ a tire

>I thought dunlop was owned by Bridgestone now
>>13922656
>I believe dunlop is actually owned by Michelin, right?
Neither. Dunlop is either made by Goodyear or Sumimoto/Falken depending on where in the world you are.
>Rights to the Dunlop brand will be split between the two companies based on the region. In North America, Goodyear will control the Dunlop brand for replacement tires and for new cars made by non-Japanese auto makers. Sumitomo Rubber will hold rights to the Dunlop brand for new cars made by Japanese auto makers, as well as for motorcycles.
>In most parts of Europe, Goodyear will control the Dunlop brand. In Japan, Sumitomo Rubber will retain rights to the Dunlop brand, while the Goodyear brand will return to Goodyear.

hot tires. too bad they're expensive as fuck.
>>13925439
better than R888s by a long margin
>>13925296
Nothing, but the way the compound is made it won't grip well or at all during cold temp settings
If you don't drive like a jerk they will behave when it's freezing outside, but it won't grip in snow at all
>>13923967
If you can afford it, get blizzacks.
>>13925296
They're like rocks near freezing.
I just put Pilot Sport AS3's on my 08 TSX. Not the smoothest of tires. I can still get her loose cornering too.
