Ford Mustang 5.0 2013-14 with Performance Pack
If a Mustang doesn't have racing heritage then neither does anything else below this post. That and it's a good all around car. Decent handling that can always be improved with the leftover money, awesome acceleration, practical, reliable, and the 5.0 just sings at high rpms, like two Honda B-Series joined at the crank.

If you want a car that actually has racing history you don't want something street legal. Fortunately there are many old race cars available for a fraction their original cost. Really it just depends on what interests you. It could be anything from an old vintage formula atlantic to a trans am stock car.

The 911 is probably the single most successful race car of all time. Granted it's been in its current configuration for a good 50 years, so take that with a grain of salt.
You could get a RX-7, they're supposed to be really fun to drive.
You could also get a subaru or evo for muh rally performance

Yeah, probably 911 or RX7.
Corvette isn't bad too if it's the right model.
Skyline is the other.
E30 and E46 I guess to round it out to 5 but only if you strip that shit down and do a lot of work to make it no longer so street car.
RX7s dominated back and forth with Skylines in a lot of race series. RX7s are still winning their classes today, not to mention 24 hours of Lemons. RX7 pretty much dominate what they weren't banned from or essentially banned from.
And the RX7 has the most "track car for the street" feel to them.
