I went to a fairly local rally last weekend that had a stage on the Nordschleife, but counterclockwise.
Pretty good except for the weather.

As a driver too but particularly as a spectator.
Apart from shakedown stages and the odd other special you hardly notice the competition and to me it's always been more about the cars and the whole event than the individual drivers.

But it's more like a lottery ticket to see who wins. Instead of side by side action like moat racing you watch the driver run the course then see where he placed after.

I live outside of Kansas City and my mechanic told me that some time back they shut down a bunch of main streets in the city and had a rally race. Unfortunately it somehow didn't garner enough turnout and profit for the city to ever do it again. I would have loved to have seen it.
