I plan on driving through all mainland US states this summer and was wondering what the best car for this would be. I don't want to go with a boring sedan car either , I was thinking something more rugged like a jeep or truck. I'll be trading in my 2003 V6 Altima for something else. What do you guys think

ur mom rode this dick through all mainland us
a jeep? i wouldnt. i think a jetta diesel with the 1.9 would be a good bet
they have a huge range means longer between stops. a jeep has a pretty short range.
>>13897017
I know that would be the smart optimal choice , but I was hoping for something more rugged or unique.

90s 4runner.

Ram 2500 with a 12 valve Cummins and manual transmission
Rugged enough for anything you'd come across, throw a bed topper on it and an air mattress in the bed, and it'll get 20+ mpg unloaded. Give it larger tires (like 33's or 35's) and it'll cruise on the highway better.

>Ram 2500
more like 2500 redline
>>13897028
I should say that 12 valves are a bit tough to find in decent shape these days, so really any Ram diesel with a manual up to 2006 are good long range road trucks. Past 2006 they changed to the 6.7 Cummins and have DPFs on them. No bueno.

But actually I'm interested in this too.
>>13897021
Duh fuck do you need "rugged" for?
Is main land. Worry about your mpgs.
>>13897034
what's your point? Diesel engines don't rev as high, yes.
>>13897045
He's right. You're just going to see a lot of highway. I'd try for some kind of GT you won't get bored with.
>>13897047
I still don't see what the point is. Trucks aren't boring and are actually useful once he's done with his trip.
>>13897047
This, a comfy cruiser would be a better option on the road than some modded tricked out Jeep. A Jaguar or Porsche come to mind.
Unless rugged is a must, then maybe a Land Cruiser or similar
>>13897055
>GT's aren't useful
>>13897065
That wasn't what I was implying, but trucks are absolutely more useful than a big GT car. Especially a diesel that will either match or better a big GT car's fuel economy.
>>13896997
A station wagon that isn't an SUV would be great. There's no reason to buy a Jeep anything or some pickup truck.
>>13897069
so like a vw taureg with the v10 tdi?
sounds baller
>>13897061
>Unless rugged is a must, then maybe a Land Cruiser or similar
He has absolutely zero need for a Land Cruiser.
>>13897077
This might be a good idea. Subaru Outback or something similar. You'd fit in with the Coloradonans.
>>13897078
I suppose, but I wouldn't trust a VW Touareg as far as I could throw it. They're also not great on fuel economy.

Either a Ford e series van for boatish comfort with captains chairs, or a 370z for dem mountain roads.
I last crossed country in my e350, this spring it will be in my Z.
>>13897079
>about to cruise the land
>zero need for land cruiser
pick one
>>13897047
>You're just going to see a lot of highway.
Not if he, y'know, doesn't take the highway.
>>13897165
Don't see how you couldn't in the US if you plan on getting anywhere.
>>13897172
Backroads are still a thing anon. Hell most of the western states you can go through with hardly touching pavement.
>>13897172
>go to google maps
>choose route
>under options choose avoid highways
I would drive my 89 c1500 cross country if I had a clutch. That truck is rugged enough to handle all I put it through. The engine won't quit and the empeegees aren't bad considering how big it is.
>clutch is bare metal
>>13896997
>>13897021
>m-muh rugged
Ah, so you want to "look" like youre on a road trip. Fuck off.
>>13897216
what the fuck does that even mean
>>13897017
I mean its not like it'll kill ya. 17 mpg, 20 gallon tank; 340 miles per fill up about 5 hours of driving. Dude drive 10 hours then get out and cook out for the night and sleep. It's perfect.
>>13897161
I'll pick two, he doesn't need an LC to go over interstate highways.
>>13897165
The odds he ever leaves the pavement are incredibly low.
>>13897182
Oh, do you mean freeways?
>>13896997
>>13897228
If your serious about buying a jeep or truck, do your research. Jeeps are great, have one for my DD. But it has leafs all the way around, so I break my ass on pot holes. However I've never had a better time driving a vehicle.
>>13897301
do you mean shitposting?
>>13897306
Jeeps are absolutely terrible for highway driving
>>13897310
How? I've never experienced that.
>>13897089
Fuelly is horribly unreliable because it relies on people to understand how the data is manipulated.
I track my economy in a spreadsheet and just dumping the data it into fuelly returned worse numbers. Add into that people fuding the numbers themselves and its useless.
