I'm considering buying myself a cheap Manual '92 Maxima, I've read that they're reliable and relatively quick/easy to make quick. It also seems like they have a pretty decent community surrounding them. I'm looking for a DD that can go fast enough, not a racecar. Opinions? Am I retarded? Is there anything else quick, cheap, reliable, and able to get gas mileage in the 20+'s?

Well first off, what's your budget OP?

You'd be happier with a 4th gen
which [i think] was 1995-1999
they're only 2800lbs, easy to find in manual, 200hp
You can swap in the VIAS system and cams from a 2000-2001 for an extra 20hp
Not even kidding, tha'ts all they changed from the VQ30DE and the VQ30DE-K, as far as i'm aware
Never expect MPG's from a Nissan V6 though.
NEVER except mpg's from a nissan v6...

I'd get an old acura, like an RL or a legend or something over a maxima.

Around 5k. College job doesn't necessarily permit much more unfortunately.

Sticky chart is a good reference then
MuhV6 has a good point here >>13895707 the 4th gen is a better buy if you can find a decent one in budget

this board only has room for one maxima owning shitposter
uhhh with your budget, you should just finance a Honda Fit
You can get em for literally under 150 a month
if you're stuck to buying outright and you need a nissan, just get an early 2000's Sentra
if you're lucky you can get a type-R for that money
you shouldn't bother with a Maxima, it's not the luxury sedan they marketed it as, it's not as fast as they imply it is [unless it's manual], the mpg's are poo, it's not as reliable as it's competitors etc
>>13895760
you can find them MINT for 3k
5th gens are about the same price 'cause they had INEVITABLE alternator and radiator failure between 80k and 120k
>>13895760
I live in Houston and there's not much in the way of options. A bunch of Mexicans selling them it seems.

>Mexicans
They love that car
Max-EE-muh they call it
hiatians in FL love it, they call it "Mocks-ee-moo"

Just realized that results get better when you don't put 1k as the max price. Maybe I have down syndrome.
>>13895709
That's because you're a basic bitch.

m8 I say this after owning a Sentra of that gen for 3 or 4 years. Acura is a step above nissan when it comes to daily driveability & reliability.

id love me an older maxima with a stick, i drive an 08 maxima, pretty comfy and reliable, just need to change her leaky valve covers, the block is soaked, im losing about half a quart between oil changes.
