It was indeed a truck engine, though. The rumors always say it was a truck V10 that Dodge had Lambo cast out of aluminum, but it was actually a V8 that they just stuck another cylinder onto each bank. I don't know if that makes it more cool or not.
The current engine shares maybe one bolt with the original one, though, sow hatever.

I've driven a few Vipers, the hood doesn't affect visibility very much. The car is a lot larger than it feels though so you need to be aware in tight spaces.
