I'm parting out a 1999 saab 9-3 turbo hatchback if anyone needs parts. Located in central NY
240 owner here, heater core is toast and the fans only work on 4. I ordered the parts.
How much of a train wreck am I looking at here? A weekend? Sadly I have to do it outside and the weather is getting colder.
Any tips on how to do this shit and make it less of a nightmare?
>>13892826
Have you looked at your switch ? if it's only the fan switch it won't be long.
For the heater, it depends if it's a diesel or not. Far easier to put the hands in a gas one...
good luck anon
>>13892923
I have not, but I'm fairly certain it isn't the switch as I used to have 3 of the 4 settings working, and they slowly started to stop. The fan is noisier than hell and takes a second to start up with a long SCRRRREEEEACH.
I'll check it out though, might save me a ton of headache.
It's a gasoline engine thankfully, honestly the engine bay heat does a fine job as long as the car is in motion, gets chilly when you're stopped though.
If I can get the fans working by replacing the switch I'll hold off the heater repair for another time.
>>13893002
Maybe the motor is dead then. these were not brushless motors, and there were parts that (just like in alternators) were subject to wear...
that would not quite explain the screech nor the full torque start though, maybe there's just something stuck in the fan's way. take apart and tell us !
>>13892194
this is cringe
All I want is a Volvo with lots spotlights.

Winter isn't here yet in Canada
>what the fuck nature
>bought an '06 S40 turbo awd this spring
>paint looks mint for an '06
>now winter is here and I dont want to drive my car and fuck it up with salt
Why live
>>13897343
These cars are meant to beat the fucking outta winter. Rustproof it and do it.
I have a mint 92 Passat and will kill this winter. Fuck the haters, I'm not storing this car.
yep. just got some winters for my R. Can't wait for first snow, I am very curious how the awd will perform
>>13892733
The "TCS off" light will turn on intermittently and sometimes the car will go into limp home mode. Without a Tech2, there's really no way to tell where the problem is coming from as far as I know - could be the throttle body, the ETS/TCS ECU or the pedal sensor. Right now the fuel pump is also half dead so I have to fix that first.
Pic related is my new Walbro 255 pump that I'm putting into the housing atm.

whats the oldest awd volvo wagon?
when i was younger i dated a girl whos dad owns a saab dealership/repair shop and had a volvo with a corvette engine and an old ass saab with a super charged mustang 5.0 engine. i think she drives a viggen now.
>>13897204
Why the fuck can't anyone take a photo with their car in front of good graffiti for once?
>>13892212
Have you checked the ABS crown at the wheels?
They can crack.
>>13901190
well, this is a snapshit... you can't judge that m8
>>13902119
I doubt it's that, I don't get an ABS light when the car goes into LHM, only the TCS one. I'm on my way to get the last part I need to complete the pump replacement (barbed hose connector piece to connect the 8mm fuel line from the 255 pump to the stock 6mm pressure line), I should be able to replace the pump assy tonight or tomorrow then I'll see if that was the only problem. I did replace the bulkhead TCS valve at some point so it's possible that the recent issues were only due to the pump problems.
NP.
Army Surplus is a wonderful thing.

You need a new motor and resistor. The motor bushings wear out and cause the fan to make contact with the housing. The ceramic resistor gets too hot and cracks, making the speeds not work.

9-3 owner here. Any special maintenance stuff or driving habits that I need in winter? I saw the other thread about salt damaging undercarriages and was wondering how much of a problem that actually was.
I had a water leak in my 740, decided to fix it today. There was a rust hole in the undercarriage
trimmed, brushed, welded a custom made plate and siliconed the shit out of it. No more leak !
>>13903921
said plate
>>13903932
ready to be welded+siliconed.
How otherwise do you treat rust that's this bad ?
>>13903973
did you paint it anon?
I need new studded tires for my old wagon. Not particulary eager to open my wallet and cough up 400-500£ though..
>>13903976
nyet. there is tar on the undercarriage, The silicone covers everything.
i'll have a look on it during the next weeks though, if it's still leaking (wich I seriously doubt) I'll put tar on it (under a layer of anti-rust paint of course)
>>13903979
Well worth it, my 740 turbo with winters is the most fun i've ever had driving
http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/5322000382.html
should i? how daily driveable is a 142?
>>13904336
looks good !
I would
>>13904336
Hell yeah! Do it! Very clean and turn key. Shouldn't need anything but regular maintenance, you'll love it!
