Hey guys, I saw some post-apocalyptic talk going on in a thread around here that mentioned Mad Max and it got me thinking: what's gonna happen when gas is actually out of reach?

Will we convert our old cars to use a new fuel source? Or maybe create synthetic petrol?
Surely we can't just let actual classic cars like pic related just sit forever can we?

I understand "normal people" will drive electric or hydrogen or whatever, but do you think we'll see electric C2s, Mustangs, or even classic Japanese cars simply to keep the bodies on the road? Would combustion to ___ swaps become a reliability mod?

Man will be long extinct before oil runs out.

better have a diesel so you can run diesel/kerosine/propane/lighter fluid/ethanol, etc.
otherwise might as well just kill yourself

I didn't say "run out" I mean just become ludicrously expensive. Obviously V16 and Cobra drivers will have the money to spend, but what about more modest enthusiasts, like current miatafags or muh dream project restorers?

I mean the idea of Tesla S powered c4 or FD sounds both sickening and awesome to me.

This. I'll just run the ute on whatever I can find. Raiding fast food joints for their fryer oil.

WVO and shat. Also for gas engines, natural gas is always an option when actual gasoline ("benzine") is depleted

Wood gas.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wood_gas

Worked ok for most of Europe during WW2.

Just make sure you don't kill yourself with with carbon monoxide.

Also requires a steady source of wood/straw/etc,

most likely an ethanol based fuel or LPG.

Wood gas is where we are headed if shit goes down, printed out everything I need to know about them for when shit does down

That's literally worse

But woody gas sounds too funny for me to argue

>convert Miata to electric

ethanol is a better practical substitute to gasoline
