Opening up:

Dad got a Cadillac SRX (2011) and asked me to pick up a pair of wiper blades for him on the way home from work.

From what I remember they have a special mount. Am I wrong? What should I buy, as in brand or sth.

>recommend wiper blades for cadillac srx, preferably from autozone or something, no ordering online
>>
>>13889147
Can't answer that but >>13889132

Can someone tell me why the fuck my wipers, even when new, smear? Only in 1 spot too and it's in the middle of my view.

I've bought rainX, and the other brands. Nothing works.

At autozone they should have a book stating what to get, and wipers should be pretty univeral, they come with adapters.
>>13889178
I had this fucking problem, and i fixed it by buying the cheapest of the Michelin brand. They have really soft rubber, so the wiper won't jump and shit. Try it OP they're only like $5 or even less at walmart sometimes

hey /o/
I've got an '88 RX7 and it's missing the front cover for the rear hatch light (like, I have the back cover, internals, and the light itself, it even works)
I've been looking for this piece literally for days and I can't find it
Does anyone know what it's specifically called or know where I can find it?
>>
>>13889132
My car does this funny thing. A sort of knocking noise (like the noise that comes from a bearing on its way out) will come from my front end, right about where the tranny is, at very specific speeds. It goes away if I shift into neutral. However, it also goes away if I change lanes (turn the wheel enough). What the fuck is it? Differential? I was wondering if it might be a CV joint, and that's what the local car shop thought when I brought it up to them, but I have no fucking idea desu senpai. Also, car sometimes slips into neutral on hard left turns. A little bit of throttle pops it back into gear. Gear stick never moves. 2001 Neon btw.

Compression is really low, but not extremely low, maybe just some wear on the piston rings. Do all cylinders read the same? How's your oil? Milky at all? How does your exhaust smell? Normal?

Seems like the best thread for it.

I bought a 1 series and am wanting to hardwire a dashcam to it. I bought a britfag version of the pic. I've grounded it right and threaded it up the a pillar.

I'm no good at electrics or fuses and shit but when i plug it in a 5amp fuse it draws power even when the ignition is off. I only want it to draw power when the ignition is on so i can start the car and drive away without fiddling with it.

will post a pic of the fuse box diagram.

i was talking to a friend and he said something about direct feed and permanent feed but i dont know what either of those things are.

i have plugged it into the rear lights fuse the cruise control fuse and everything i can think of that is 5amp. (apart from the radio)

help me make it work please /o/

I was a nocar when I bought it so I didn't know what to look for.

I don't know if chemical composition comes into play with the cleaning fluid.

doesnt matter so long as there is a seal and no loss of pressure.
if you do replace it and it takes a few seconds of pulling the lever before it sprays, that is a leak in the system somewhere.
You should be able to buy the stock part on the internet. google it.
>>
>>13890536
I don't know about direct feed or permanent feed, but I know about switched power and constant power.
Switched power would be what you're looking for: ex. Power Windows - only works with car in ON state.

Power Windows is a good option.

Now, I'm looking at your diagram but it's not real clear to me which fuse is which. 21 might be a fuse for power windows, and is in a corner with space.

Is it possible to put a turbo kit on my ED3 civic and remove it annually before vehicle inspection?
>>
>>13889178
The spring on your arm is weak or the arm itself is bent. Cant put enough pressure on the blades. This is made worse by the beam style blades that start out curved so they push back leaving the middle of the blade off the glass

I live in a country with high level of nepotism thats how everyone mods their cars here but I just wanna keep it as a plan b in case that doesnt workout. But realistically speaking is it possible and what would the process be like?
>>
>>13890588
just a quick follow up on my 1 series problem.
i tried all the 5 amp plugs and they are all live when the ignition is off.
i did some googling and its because all the feeds are permanent. you can pick up a switched power adapter for 25 quid ish and wire it in to the system.

google tells me that in bmw's all of the wires are live but they send a digital signal to the components telling them to shut down. since the dashcam is not stock bmw it doesnt get that signal. this adapter apparently will and cut power when the car is turned off. pretty neat but frustrating as you have to import the item from america for some reason. pac tr-4 its called.

thanks for your help though anon

Got rear ended last night. Will the rear bumper cover need to be replaced or can the mechanic fill and paint it? I have a 2009 Corolla.
>>
>>13891206
looks like it can be filled. just two punctures, right?

the internal Styrofoam core might need replacing too though
>>
>>13890884
Um. Sure. you do know that you can't just drop a turbo in like a new air filter, right? It's gonna take hours, if not days, of extensive and engine modification to install a turbo (or remove one), and there is always potential for something to go wrong enough that your engine will be completely fucked if you make an error. If that's something you want to do, go for it, but I think you're dramatically underestimating the about of time and effort a turbo install (and subsequent removal) takes.

A dealership would be quickest, but unless you're also getting a car in exchange, they're gonna give you a fraction of what it's worth (which isn't much anyway), probably well below the Black Book (always lower than Blue Book) value. If you're trading, you can get closer to the Black Book value.

Is there anything that could possibly go wrong if I use an adapter to make a 1.5" exhaust system go to a 2" muffler?
>>
>>13890884
dude if you put in a turbo you're gonna need a new or different ECU, drive line that can take it, intercooler, and the works to make it work and not snap your car. Its honestly not worth it unless you're really willing to take apart your engine and put it back together every time you want to get it inspected
>>
>>13889441
yes. This might have made sense back in the 80's and early 90's, but now V6 is the new V8.
>>
>>13889756
I don't know what it's called, and probably the only place you are going to find it (or any other internal trim parts) is a junkyard.
>>
So I have to replace the axles and the steering column for my car and I was wondering is there anything else I should do or check while I'm doing all that work under the car?
>>
>>13889952
Depending on car, a "good" reading could be anywhere from 160 to 190 psi. 150 or below usually means it's getting pretty worn out.

Usually when you do a compression test, though, you're looking for consistency between cylinders, rather than a specific number. You're just looking to make sure you don't have one cylinder with a burnt valve or a cracked piston. 4 cylinders all 130-150 means that you're probably burning a fuckton of oil, but no failure is imminent. 3 cylinders all 150-170 and a 4th at 90 psi means stick a fork it it.
>>
>>13890207

Previous owner probably ran it overheated and scored the bores up something fierce.

A lot of cars won't start with only 90psi compression, if it's still running and driving I wouldn't question it. Keep feeding it oil and run it til' it pops.

>>13890234
>The exhaust smells like toxic death
Is it losing coolant? Might have a blown head gasket (unrelated to compression issues, but related to previous owner overheating)
>>
Are airbags necessary on steering wheels if you wear your seatbelt all the time? I wear it 100% of the time so I'm really curious. I was thinking of getting an aftermarket wheel (which almost always never have airbags) and was wondering if that's gonna be an issue.
>>
>>13892418
yes, seat belt retractors are designed with the assumption that an airbag will deploy in conjuction. the retractor lets out a length of belt to slow your body and let your head hit your air bag.

you'll hit your head on the wheel if you don't do something about the retractor. or get 5 pt harness and seat

Didn't get this answered in the previous thread. I was wondering if it's alright to replace standard bulbs (tail lights, turn signals, etc... NOT the headlights) in an older car (2000 Acura TL) with LED bulbs. Are there any downsides or reasons why I shouldn't? I know the whole bit about the turn signal possibly flashing rapidly, but I can easily buy a resistor. Nothing will overload or anything, right?
>>
Whats the benefit of having a procharger/centrifugal blower over a roots style? Everytime I search for videos and compare the same car with both types making similar power outputs (2v Mustang) the Procharged car is always faster.

I was looking at 600whp Procharged 5.0L Coyotes, and with drag radials they were running into the 10s. But a 620whp Roots blown 5.0L Coyote with drag radials (both autos) was only in the low 11s.

Currently own a 2000 Volkswagen Gti. I got a new job as an electrician and was looking for something more practical, that I can keep my tools covered and have the space I need. I've been looking at Subaru foresters and outbacks, more recently the older volvo v70s (the turbo sounds like it could be the fun I'm looking for) or other wagons. I'm looking to drive something thats not mind numbingly boring, while being a reliable daily. Price I've got around 5 grand. Would I be better to pick up a truck or would the wagon work?

Is there any technical reason you can't fit a gearbox in a Tesla and go 600mph? I don't see why they left it at just one gear, despite the godly torque curve
>>
>>13893904
You can connect some sort of gearbox to an electrical motor and make it spin something at 600mph yes. So from a mechanical designing point of view it is possible. But Tesla probably made it the way it is so the cars work appropriately following normal road rules
>>
>>13893904
probably more efficient, less parts to go wrong, simpler, less parts to make, lighter
>>
Is there an easy way to tell if a vehicle is going to use metric and/or SAE fastener sizes? I mean, other than it being import or domestic of course.
>>
>>13892237
man, I was worried that was going to be the case, thanks though
>>
>>13894039
pretty much if it is foreign or domestic. Check the manual too.
>>
>>13893904
Electric motors make torque instantly, they don't have a torque curve or a power band (when the engine is operating most efficiently) like ICE engines do. So, instant tourqe means no need for a transmission at real-world speeds. You could add a really low geared rear end and do probably about 220 in a stock Tesla though. I think standard they top out at around 130 and hit 60 in 4 seconds on the base models, so no need for a trany.
>>
>>13892965
No problem. Just make sure they are aimed correctly after you do the swap, or everyone else is gonna hate you.

Harder to shift gears usually. Doesn't disengage well, etc. Best way to check is (for slippage, only do this once pls k thanks)
> park somewhere safe away from cars and shit.
> FULLY engage parking brake
> shift into the highest or Second highest gear (e.g you have a 5 speed trans, shift into 4th)
> While holding your clutch down, and IN gear. Rev your RPMs somewhere around 3-4k (deopends on car, my car revs to 6k so i would test my clutch at 3.5k.)
> if car stalls immediately your clutch is good. If it does not stall immediately and you can sustain an RPM that doesn't stall your car than your clutch is bad.

I AM NOT EVEN TROLLING bro i swear ton you this is the fastest and easiest way to check. Unless you want to go to a steep incline and shift into a high gear and watch your RPMs as you WOT. But its fundamentally the same shit.

They don't really need the police. You can be banned from the property. Either the security guard acting as an agent for the property owner can give you a lawful order or the property owner can. If you return, then they can call the police and charge you.

>>13896410

>How to kill your parking brake

Why do you have to give it gas?

Why not just set the brake. Put it into gear and quickly release the clutch?
>>
>>13896458
because any clutch would kill a car if you engage it at idle in 5th gear no matter how worn the clutch is. you rev it to get into the power band a bit. you want to torture test the thing.

personally I prefer the method where you drive in 4th gear and goose it , checking to see if your rpms and speed increase at the same rate. 4th gear is usually 1:1 ratio.
>>
>>13896458
That won't work, if you are in a high gear the car SHOULD stall because the gearing allows not enough torque to actually move the car especially if the brake is engaged.
Btw i fucked up the original post, you put brake, put it in high gear, rev it, dump clutch, and car should stall, if doesn't stall clutch is slipping
