this. First and second gen Legacy have pretty much the same drive line. Picked my first gen Legacy for about 500, just needed a new set of tires. Just make sure you get the manual one, the auto is front biased power 90% to the front. more power only gets sent to the back when the front wheels start to lose traction. or if you have money you could get a beetle and swap in a 2.2L NA engine from a Subaru, instantly 4 times the power of the beetle engine, and a lot more if you upgrade internals and turbo
