Holden 355 stroker > LS engine
I have never understood why the LS engines are so god damned big and make so little power for what they are.
Pic related makes 330kw out of the box.
>>
>>13883321
Probably because that's a crate motor. We can buy 420hp 350s, but the LS is still the better swap.

That's only ever come out factory in a couple of cars, and even then it was only 215kw. Add the fact that there's not a huge aftermarket for them and they are iron block/iron head heavy as fuck and you wonder why people even bother with those old pieces of shit.

Disclaimer: I have a 304 on my lawn ready to swap into my valiant. They are a joke of a motor with less power than just about everything else on the road these days

Im seriously considering making a franken ls3 out of an lq block.

If it's burger spec, the offset turbo actually helps weight distribution.
A turbo LS is still no heavier, if not lighter than an RB25 when you account for all its turbo shit.

I know the turbo LOOKS massive and you think it's laggy as fuck, but remember it's being driven by 5.7L+ and likely on E85, it probably spools better than a factory SR. Clearly it's designed for nothing but skidz, but i'm just trying to point out that an N/A LS2 (lighter than 1/3) is actually a really good choice for a lot of JDM cars, considering the alternative is an iron block I6.

I'm not saying imperial is perfect, far from it, just that it's not any more arbitrary than metric.

You don't need nice divisors if everything is based on powers of 10. The division does itself with powers of 10.

You can easily divide a foot by more numbers than you can a meter. it's pretty convenient.

Most of the time when you want to divide a unit in metric you get some decimal fraction.

You just like metric because in a simplistic sense it seems superior. The consistency is nice, but it's far from perfect.

This isn't useful all that often. They should have used a more useful base than 10.

> So you're admitting that division is equally hard or easy in both systems

No, again read the page about highly composite numbers.
>>
>>13892389
Yep, getting fairly common and there's a couple of kits available now for the non electrical minded. LS coils are also cheap as fuck and work better compared to Nissan coils so its a good mod

Kind of ugly though since you can't really hide them under the coil cover like the stock ones.
>>
>>13892790
Dude, either you're going to name me a concrete example in which case inches would be more "composite" and easier to turn into useful numbers than meters, or you can shut your moron face right now.
>>
>>13892807

1 foot is cleanly divisible by 2, 3, 4, or 6 into inches.

metric units are only divisible by 2 and 5 into the next smaller unit.
>>
>>13892834
And that's exactly what I said. If you include 4 and 6 on top of 2 and 3 a foot, you might as well include 4, 10, 20, 25 and 50 for a meter.
>>
>>13892851

> literally doesn't understand the advantages of bases other than 10

I'm talking about from one unit to the next.
If you skip units in imperial you can add more divisors as well.
>>
>>13892861
And if you skip units in metric you still only need to move the comma.
>>
>>13892866

it's not an advantage that you have to do that to make division easy

why isn't metric base-12 you fucking faggot
>>
>>13892877
>seriously suggesting that using base 12 units (despite the fact that every unit seems to have a different base in the imperial system anyway) in a base 10 numerical system is superior to using base 10 units in a base 10 numerical system
You're not making things easier, you're only cluttering them up. Feel free to move to Mars, grow another finger on each hand and start using base 12 for everything. Until then base 10 is the system that works the most in any imaginable way in the world.
>>
>>13887335

The rotary engine is integral to the handling of that car. Compared to a 13b the LS is a skyscraper and there's no way you will fit it all the way behind the front axle.

Better? That's subjective, but for the RX7 I would hazard that keeping the rotary is optimal.
>>
>>13892900
Oh, I know imperial kinda sucks, but at least some of the units are pretty good. Metric is universally shitty.

Also, counting in base-12 isn't really hard.

> Until then base 10 is the system that works the most in any imaginable way in the world.

Explain decimal's advantages relative to a base-12 system. The only ones I can think of is that you have 10 fingers (easily rectified by using a different method to count with fingers) and that people already know it. Being able to just "move the decimal" is just as easy to do in other bases as well.

If a unit_a is worth 10 (12 in decimal) of unit_b, you can just say

1 unit_a = 10 unit_b
1 unit_a = 100 unit_c (next smaller unit)

Not only that but you have 2,3,4, and 6 as divisors.

1 unit_a / 6 = 2 unit_b
1 unit_a / 4 = 3 unit_b
1 unit_a / 3 = 4 unit_b
1 unit_a / 2 = 6 unit_b

It's more compact, it has more divisors, arithmetic is even simpler than decimal (try it out), and not hard to manually count in at all.
>>
>>13892980
>but for the RX7 I would hazard that keeping the rotary is optima

on a track car, absolutely. Street car I don't care if someone swaps a v8 in. I still would keep the rotary in a street car if I had one though. They just feel so right.
>>
>>13892990
1 unit_a = 100 unit_c
1 unit_a / 2 = 50 unit_c
1 unit_a / 4 = 25 unit_c
1 unit_a / 5 = 20 unit_c
1 unit_a / 10 = 10 unit_c
1 unit_a / 20 = 5 unit_c
1 unit_a / 25 = 4 unit_c
1 unit_a / 50 = 2 unit_c
1 unit_a / 100 = 1 unit_c

heres some FACTS the 308 doesnt exist outside NZ/AUS so parts may be a problem if you live in the USA.
its actually WIDER than a 350 chevy gen 2
so it may not pass the tape measure test. where you are measure twice, cut once
and 383ci is the wheezy limit for the 308 thats if it doesnt detonate first.

easiest way to get a LS is to buy the VT onwards commodore SS around it .

for all the people complaining the LS doesnt weigh that much more than rotary so you arent really losing any weight balance or any other retarded argument you intend to come up with.

the reason the rotary works so well in smaller cars is because its a tiny engine. expecting it to lug around a big heavy shell like the rx-7 is a big ask.
>>
ITT : retards think that 75 lbs added to the front of your car with absolutely destroy handling. Every car that I've seen swapped to ls has improved track times and drag strip times. You're a pleb if you think that the very slight difference in handling affects the car more negatively than the power positively affects the car. Move the battery to the trunk for only 40pounds up front if you're that big of a weight distribution nazi.

Instead of contacting Subaru for the FRS they should have went to Mazda. The next Rx7 will be a beast. Have all of that plus carbon fiber and turbo. It will be expensive though. Maybe after Mazda releases the new Rx7, they will make a rotary Miata coupe. Priced more than the normal one, but not much. Would be bad ass.

I have faith in Based Mazda to deliver the new Rx.
But if it doesn't come to life or is way to expensive for the average person (afford Rustang GT as example) I think in going to buy a crashed BRZ/FRS and replace the front clip with a ND miata and drop a rotary in.
And redo the interior with mazda bits (love the mazda steering wheels).

And use appropriate badges (put a rotaruu Badge here)

too tall, long, heavy, causes bump steer

If you're going to be a heretic, LS is the superior choice.

It probably will be expensive. I'd bet Corvette level price and performance.

Maybe Mazda will make a non turbo version, or a Miata rotary that is cheaper.
