What does /o/ think of the Golf R? Need a new car soon, want AWD and manual. Don't really want a WRX (read: camry with AWD) and Audi is out of my price range.

>>

Are you unable to understand a basic sentence?

As I said, VW group was given part of our taxes as incentives for selling ecologic cars...that happens regardless of whether you buy or not their cars.

With this scam they harmed competitors selling you a fake green car because you could get a discount on the OTR price...paid with your and my taxes.

Focus RS will be really hard to get, they're not making a lot of them.

/o/ doesn't know shit about cars. Go somewhere else for reccomendations.

Gorf R is a spectacular DD hot hatch. It's not the most aggressive thing you can buy in that price range, and it is true it is not a true AWD system like a Subaru would have. It's not a dirt and gravel kind of car, rather the haldex diffs make a corner eating lift off oversteer kind of car that can be hurled into turns with reckless abandon.

If you absolutely must get a hatchback and are not an idiot, you will get an M135i.

6 cylinders
RWD
Comes with more kit as standard
Interior is more comfortable and has leather as standard
Manual gearbox is much better
Accelerator pedal is placed better and makes for easier heel-n-toe
Electronics don't interfere as much so you can hoon it in corners
Not a Volkswagen

> Can't afford Audi
Golf R is nicer inside than a stripper model Audi would be, anyway. And Audi A1/A3/S3 are transverse/Haldex equipped. Since they're basically rebadged Volkswagens, you might as well just get the Golf/Jetta at that point.

If you don't feel too silly paying $35k for a Golf, the R is supposedly very nice, one of the better daily driver cars on the market right now.

Personally I don't find Haldex AWD enticing enough to get past VW not offering it with two doors, so I'd probably opt for a regular GTi. But then, I also live in CA where you don't ever really need AWD.
>>
>>13881088

For the current iteration VW decided not to offer a two door R because it's already a low-volume model.

You can't turn off the traction control in the Golf R.

(atleast the american ones)

this is the only thing you need to know.

the traction control is pretty fucking intrusive, so have fun with that shit.
>>
>>13887134
>You can't turn off the traction control in the Golf R.

Only on the MK6s. And even on the MK6s its fully defeatable with a VAG-com:

https://www.goapr.com/support/esp-defeat.html

>The new Golf R is equipped with "ESC Sport" as standard. The system is activated by a two-stage switch on the center console. When the driver presses this switch briefly, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) switches to the "ESC Sport" mode. In very fast driving on a race track, the ESC system has a higher threshold in this mode. When the ESC button is pressed for longer than three seconds, the system is fully deactivated for high-performance track driving, a feature that is available only on the Golf R.

The new MK7 is a completely different car.

Interesting question. Since test drives clearly don't exist in this universe, I guess I have to rely on some faggy "journalists" to tell me what to buy!
>ok lol. like i've said, i've YET to see a single bad review for this car from any media outlet
Motor Trend and Car Magazine are well known for putting out paid-for reviews.

But, like I said before, since test drives are currently just a theoretical concept, I will just have to buy the car on the basis of being completely incapable of formulating my own opinions on anything before I commit to spending large sums of money on said thing. Thank god people like you exist to guide us to our opinion-makers' sites and publications!
>>
>>13887943
Np, VW pays me to do this kinda thing. So does Ford, Apple, BMW, Bethesda, EA, GM, Kia, Hyundai, FCA, Toyota, and Nissan. I get paid to post on 4chan apparently :^)

Test drive one then instead of spitting out unfounded opinions like most of the retards on /o/. Otherwise you're not really in much of a position to criticize the press (WHO ACTUALLY HAS DRIVEN THEM) or people who own them (WHO DECIDED WITH THEIR OWN MONEY WHAT WAS THE BEST CAR FOR THEM)
>>
>>13887968
I have. My friend owns one and he loaned it to me for 4 months when he went travelling, and I've driven it numerous other times since he got it in 2014.

I very much liked it, but that was only because I was driving it for free. It's really not a car I would buy, nor would I encourage anyone to buy it. The R is overpriced as fuck and has no real usp that sets it apart from other cars. It's just so fucking boring. I mean, wow, a fast Golf that handles itself well in corners because computers are doing virtually everything for you! How terrifically amazing and exciting, right? No. It's not even a unique fucking car because the S3 is exactly the same car minus the shape, interior, and the shittier steering.

He knows how I feel about it and it's become a bit of a joke between us.
>>
>>13888053
At least you actually drove it. Your opinion actually follows what most of the media has been saying. That its too good all around and that for $10000 less you can buy a GTI which is pretty much almost the same car.

Even the Motor Trend article comparing it to the STI thinks its boring for a 4WD Turbo car. Sure its fast, but its too isolated and muted. It's a good STi competitor though just on sheer performance, and more as a alternative for someone who wants a nicer daily.

Personally I think isolated and muted would be quickly fixed with a tune and exhaust (which supposedly gives it another 80-100whp), and has to do more with cars being too fast for their own good. Also why I shill more for cars like the Ford STs (aside from a friend owning one who's car I've borrowed, specifically the Fiesta ST) its more approachable and entertaining at lower speeds.
