I recently bought a used toyota corolla 08 with 128k miles. For some reason when the car is on P the motor will shake for like 3 seconds. Other than that the car drives fine. Is this something I should worry about? Any help would be appreciated.

What happens to the RPM when the engine is shaking?

Check the engine mounts.

I can't check at the moment. Should the RPM not rise when car is idle?

High Idle should be 1K to 1200Rpm and should remain untill the car is at operating temperature
When Idling it should hover around 700 to 900 RPM (Depending on AC usage, Cooling fan engagement other power draws)

The cause of this might be the AC or Radiator fan engaging or disengaging, keep in mind the defroster also uses AC.
Turn off Climate Controls, headlights and let the car idle. If the problem ceases then everything is alright.
The AC compressor, alternator etc are huge draws from the crankshaft.

If it persists, it could be a sign of malfunctioning air and/or fuel system. (MAF, Gas Filter, Fuel Pump, Fuel Injectors, Throttle Body mechanisms...)
>Doctors orders: Ignore it, probably not a problem probably.

If I was a leader of a large military force with little funding I'd probably buy Toyotas too.
Long lasting, durable vehicles
