Assuming both cars are brand new:

>2015 base trim Honda Civic SI sedan manual
>$31,844

vs

>2015 base trim Volkswagen Golf GTI coupe manual
>$32,884

I'm looking for a "hot hatch" type commuter car.

Two doors is annoying as fuck, but the GTI is "fancier" than the Si. I like Honda though and it will probably be a lot easier to maintain. The Si is also made in Canada so I'd get some patriotic satisfaction. The Mazdaspeed 3 isn't made anymore, and the Focus ST starts at $30,000 before taxes. I love the WRX, but it's like $5000 more expensive and the Subaru base trim is pretty bad.

15% Sales Tax is fucking horrible.

Ford Fiesta ST.

Or the Focus ST. Its pretty much a Mazdaspeed 3 with a more sophisticated chassis, torque vectoring instead of a LSD, and better engine that doesn't blow up as much. The base STs aren't as stripped down as they first were.

The modern Civic Si isn't a good car at all, IMO, and the GTI isn't worth buying if you can't afford the performance pack option. Its a little monster if you can afford it though. Link below has it without the performance pack tested.

Both are really good cars. I had trouble choosing between them too. Although i wouldn't really consider the Si a "hot hatch".
I ended up buying a 2012 Si coupe and i absolutely love it. They make great commuter cars since most the power is at the top end. Just driving around on the highways i usually make 30mpg.

>Reminder Mazda came out with a Turbo Rotary Sports Car before they even released plans for a 3rd Gen MS3

Sorry bro but the 2nd Gen MS3 didn't sell well at all. I remember 2013 MS3s being on lots up well into 2014 with hearing of people getting serious discounts on them ($3000-5000 off MSRP).

Sad thing is the Focus ST is the same. My shilling isn't working ;_; The GTI and Civic have had the last 20+ years to solidify their marketplace.

Kia forte5 turbo.

>20k base SX
>201hp 1.6t turbo hatch

Stage 1 (cleaned up timing and fuel ratios) has raised hp by 50whp without changing boost.

I love the Focus ST, but it's not a great deal in Canada.

Canadian Starting Prices (High-Low):
>Golf GTI (5-Door) = $33,995
>Focus ST = $30,749
>Jetta GLI = $28,290
>Golf GTI (3-Door) = $27,995
>Civic Si (sedan & coupe) = $26,850
>Fiesta ST = $25,349

Those are all with the cheapest trims available and before getting raped by the 15% HST in NS.

I love my '15 Focus ST. Please at least test drive it OP. I won't try to convince you to buy it here, but at least give it a try.

Fiesta STs supposedly eat front brake pads if you push them hard because of the torque vectoring system.

Plus when they get close to 100k miles they eat headgaskets.
Not to mention the 4 or 5 clutches you will go through getting it to that point. Eh and maybe a transmission or two.
Ford quality senpai.

Check it out anyways, Ford dealerships tend to be a little more "negotiable" vs Import Dealers (Honda/VW) which'll tell you to buy it for this price or fuck off.

At least in my area all the scummiest Ford/GM/Chrysler salesmen moved to Honda or Subaru.

http://fiestast.net/threads/my-fist-overheated-today-has-anyone-had-this-problem.1369/page-2

Radiator replacement fixed overheating. Others had it diagnosed as a bad thermostat.

Still want proof on the bad headgaskets or transmissions. I work on Fords for a living. The Hondas have bad 3rd gear synchros where you'll get blamed for "powershifting/racing the car" and the VWs are currently on a NHTSA stop sale for snapping camshafts.
