Anyone on /o/ frequently off road?
>>
That looks like Arizona.
>>
Posted my story in other thread, but I'm a beginner off road enthusiast

Buy jeep last year
>have driven nothing but a 91 Honda Accord my whole life
>How do I into 4x4?
>dad tells me to stop car, keep foot on breaks, shift to N (automstic) and the move t case SLOWLY to 4 Hi or 4 Lo
>try it off road, works semi OKay but kinda tough

fast forward to yesterday
>off roading with much more experienced 4runner bro
>talking to him about jeep
>cant make it over steep embankment in 2hi
>try to go to 4 low how dad suggested
>gear noise from hell
>won't stay in 4x4
>have to back out
>go home and Google how to do that shit
>read about how jeeps are designed for on the fly 4x4 i.e from 2hi to 4 hi you can literally just pull the transfer case to 4hi while moving up to 55mph
>from 4hi to 4Low you just slow down to 5mph, shift to neutral while rolling, and then pull the t case to 4 low
>never ever should you stop
>confused as fuck, my dad always told me to stop completely
>try it in empty dirt lot by house
>shifts smooth as fuckin butter
>feel the true strength of my straight 6 4.0 engine in 4 low for the first time ever
>cum in pants
>>
>>13849541
Not since I moved to the south from California. There aren't any decent trails out here, and mudding is for CL closetfags in brotrucks.
>>
>>13849717
Your dad would have been correct in older 4x4s. Shift on the fly is different beast.
>>
>>13849723
Ya I don't blame my pops he drove an old beat up 4x4 from like the 60s back in Mexico
>>
>>13849541
>tries to off road around the moors
>drives past old coal mine
>bits of granite fall out of a nearby tall wall and land on car destroying body work

decides off roading = ruined cars

also discovers off roading = no point unless you have to do it to get somewhere/explore

off roading = no where near as fun as track racing.

>tru facts
>>
>>13849717

I still want to know why you didn't just read the fucking manual.

>Worrying about scratches and bodywork on an offroad vehicle.

People do this?

I actually wonder which one fucks cars faster; offroading or track racing.

Crushed the rocker panel in on my 2014 wrangler this past weekend, no fucks given. I even laughed. But heaven forbid I get a scratch on my 14 yo prelude and I turn into blubbering raging mess.

Hafta say it depends on the driver. But offroading is very hard on the vehicle if you dgaf.

I posted a question about an off road vehicle in the Questions Thread here: >>13851391 I will watch both here and the other thread for replies.

I'd like a vehicle that will be good for both highway and light off roading on the weekend. I'd like to do some car camping, and night photography next year and I like to get my ducks in order and have a solid idea of make and model well before purchasing.

This encourages violence against police. There should be laws against producing such awful music.

My suburban on 1 tons sees action offroad all the time, don't think there is a straight piece of sheet metal on it anymore. Just bought some 41.5x13.5-16.5 PitBull Rockers for it, they're getting mounted this weekend, see pic for comparison between new tire and old 37x12.50s...

Anyone ever done Mountain Mud Run in Warren, NH? I think I want to try it out next year with my XJ after I get a better lift, tires, and a rear locker. Seems like some awesome trails and camping.
>>
>>13850807
I mentioned in the other thread I bought it used as is, no spare, no roof, no working radio, nothing
>>

>buying cars without even owner's manuals
Are you retarded?
>>
>>13853587
>owner manuals can never be bought
>>
>>13849541
I do in my wagon quite a bit but doing so is taking a toll on the car.
Been looking at mid 2000's LandCruisers to replace it.
>>
>>13849717
The '04 Lexus GX470 I bashed up this summer required you to stop when going from High to Low or vice versa.
>>
I'm hoping to hit some trails this winter and camp before it gets too cold. I have a 2007 5sp Outback with a lift and Yokohama Geolandar ATS tires. Obviously not the most capable car around but I don't plan on doing anything crazy.
>>
>>13854259
Go buy one, then. But if the asshole doesn't even have the owner's manual you better pass on it unless it is very rare.
>>
>>13854343
Every vehicle does. 0-3mph is pretty much the universal speed range for shifting gears in the transfer case.
>>
>>13854414
Not Jeep owner Anon. I personally wouldn't have any problem with a sound vehicle missing it's manual as there's the Internet and second hand manuals.
>>
How do you not roast your clutch off-roading in a manual, I literally ruined it only after a few times
>>
>>13857265
Using it very carefully and relying on very low gearing. This is why I won't own a manual car for going off road.
>>
>>13849672
It is, but I don't know where.
