Noticed a hairline crack in my drainplug while doing my oil change today.
GReddy brand.
What the fuck /o/?
Your over-tighten it?

Nah, just hand tight with a box end.
It wasn't nearly as torqued down as the plug on the gfs Mazda 3.
It spun right off, didn't even need a cheater bar like I did on the 3.

China knock off. Shit ain't greddy unless you bought it from their website. And even then I suspect it's outsourced
replace it

Bought it from Z1 Motorsports.
I seriously doubt it was a knockoff.

it was probably dropped as magnets are brittle or a rock hit it hard or some shit
>>13846229
If greddy actually makes good plugs and doesn't stick their name on a china one then get it exchanged
>>13846250
I called them, Z1, they said they never heard of this problem before.
I guess I'll try contacting GReddy to see what's up.
Z1 said they sell their own branded magnetic plug, so maybe I'll try theirs.
Kinda pisses me off though, it wasn't cheap.
Good news is there were no metal shavings on the magnet after 2900 miles. Running Red Line 5w-30 and K&N top tier filter.
I just put Mobil 1 0w-40 with the same filter, because I heard the Z likes it.

thats how my z32 ded
a rod bearing wore out somehow and fucked up the crack clearances..
could of been since i was running it hot and figured i had a cooling issue, could of been since the mounts were gone to shit 3 years and counting on my drive way

and i was using mobil 1 filter too with valvoline 20w-50 vr1

RIP in pieces z32.
Sorry to hear that, Anon.
I'm super anal about my oci. With the high compression and heat I don't want to take my oil past 3k... especially with Red Line Esther oil.
My oil temps have never gone above 220 degress though, and that was in the blazing South Carolina summer.
One of the now defunct tuner mags did a shoot out and the KICS plug actually had the best magnet.
This is information that lives in my brain.

your drain plug will only pick up on iron shavings and if you have those, your engine is too far gone you would already have chronic rod-knock or other telltale signs.
Tin (coating of bearings) is not magnetic enough to stick to magnetic oil pan plugs
Same with Brass (bearings themselves)
and with most modern engines aluminium isnt magnetic either.
if you are worried about the condition of your engine you should be cutting open and searching through your oil filters for any flakes because thats where they will end up.
