If you legitimately want a cheap fast AWD car - a DSM is about the only thing that is readily available if you're in the US.
Easy to get parts for, parts are cheap.
The drivetrain is extremely stout up to 400-500hp with a proper setup and good tune. Stock blocks have been known to handle over 700whp.
This is all assuming you either get one that isn't ghetto rigged/beat to shit or else you're ready to fix previous owner problems and/or catch up maintenance.
I bought my talon for $3500, put $1000 into it and a lot of time fixing previous owner wiring and just fixing sloppy mods/ghetto rigged shit and after that I've ran mid 11's with it and driven it 25k miles without any major issues. With another $500 I've been around the 500whp range though I'm downgrading right now to go back to a more simple setup before selling the car.
Anything else out there is either more expensive initially, a pain in the ass to work on, expensive parts, poor aftermarket, or just in general has less potential. Could be more than just one of those things.

no job I was thinking I was going to get didn't pan out. Well I did get hired but though I told them I didn't think my driving record would be good enough thanks to a speeding ticket 2 years ago (30 over) but they reassured me. Then after 2 weeks after I was hired they told me I failed their MVR.
I actually had an offer from Target paying more, but the other job would of kept me living at home. Now I have to move for my new job and it just doesn't make sense for me to get a vette now with limited space I'll have since I had to rush and find a place.
After my 6 month lease is up and I find a place with a garage I might still look at a vette/cts-v. Til then just getting a nicer daily and keeping my bike.
