As modern as these cars tried to look, they used a Chevy 350 engine and GM 3-speed automatic. In fact, the transmission had gone out of production by the time the W8s were built, so Vector used re-built transmissions.

Didn't say it wasn't fast, I said it wasn't modern. They created a facade of then-modern technology, but the only technology was in the dashboard, and the drivetrain was relatively low-tech.
