Civics up till the the seventh generation were generally light, good steering, and VTEC. They were also inexpensive and reliable.

In the world of car racing, some formats require the company to use a car that is actually in production.
Civics don't always win but there are civics out there that race, and there are race grade parts made for civics.
Since it's a common and cheap car, it makes sense to make that tech available to the public.
A kid who doesn't have the money to buy or maintain a nicer car may have the money to drop in a turbo or do some body mods for fun.
If you think about it it all makes sense.

2 very good reasons. B-series Honda engines are god tier, while the A-series engines (aside from the 4a-ge) sucked. Handling is suprisingly good for an FWD car in civics, corollas not so much. People always like to start off with platforms that are already good instead of trying to polish shit until it shines.
