Subaru is like the iPhone.

They make the same thing over and over again and they just change the shape a little.

How have they gotten away with making essentially the same car for the past 20 years? Same engine same power same 4 wheel drive system same size same looking interior same colours.

It's like they don't even try and I don't see the difference between a 2004 and 2016. It's quite sad.

So here's to Subaru and not liking them.

Everybody else is innovating and doing new exciting things and Subaru just keeps doing the same boring thing.

I seriously wonder what their plan is for the next generation of sti. They can't keep being unimaginative shits. Nobody likes Subaru right now unless they're buying a used one.
>>
>>13828061
Actually 2012+ Impreza's use a new engine family, the FB engine, with new transmissions and a new AWD system
The new WRX uses a turbocharged FA engine like the BRZ, but without the BRZ's high flowing heads.

The STI is the only Subaru still using the old EJ engine.
>>
Subarus have a cult following and so they dont have to change anything. I like subies, they are great cars, but it seems like every "car guy" either has one, wants one, or is against them. I used to love them but now im kinda over them.
>>
>>13827937

but unlike an iPhone, they're quality products
>>
>>13828117

Just like the iphone, the cult doesn't car.
>>
>>13828143
And they don't offer features that everyone else has had for years and claim them as new and amazing.
>>
>>13828061
>Nobody likes Subaru right now unless they're buying a used one
This is only true in the car community. Normies like Subaru for their plebmachines with AWD because it's "soooo good in teh snow".
>>
>>13828361
This is the truth.

Subaru sticks with a good formula, and while they may be slow to change or innovate, they don't exactly have any competition to keep up with and lack of competition breeds laziness.
>>
>>13827937

Subaru sales have fallen pretty sharply for the past 5 years. Hopefully they go out of business in 15 or so years.

Why fix somthing that isn't broke. Pic related my 2016 wrx
>>
Now that they're putting their turbos where they belong, instead of 7 feet from the heads, the only thing they need to fix is head flow.

Sadly, the front differential being behind the motor makes a proper FM layout impossiboru.
>>
>>13828715
Except the WRX uses an all new engine unrelated to the old EJ engines.
>>
>>13828676
Bullshit. Some of the features and tech in even the base Carrera are astounding these days, especially in the 2016 model year. If anyone is making a car as fast off the line as the 911 Turbo at its price point, please let me know. Porsche has also regularly produced some of the best super cars in the world as well as a strong "budget" model. only the M3 has more titles in touring and grand touring racing than the 911.

>20 years
Last time I checked, a 1995 STi had a 2 liter engine, and they switched to a 2.5 in 2004. The transmission and chassis also share no parts. Don't forget Subaru literally only sells as many total cars as Honda sells just Accords every year. They don't have nearly as much money for R&D as everyone else.

>>13828694
>sales have fallen sharply
Nigger what. They're at an all time high right now and have been making record sales for 4 years straight this month.

>>13828061
The STi should be getting a variant of the FA or FB engine in 2017. They already make an FB20 with 300 horsepower in the Levorg, they just don't sell it here for whatever the same stupid reason is that the Japanese never sell their good products here.

Why is Mazda just barely getting back to where they were 20 years ago while Subaru sales have doubled? Wtf.
Actually I guess they're doing well, just not in America. On track to sell well over a million cars this year.
>>
>>13829782
That's still twice as big as Subaru. They only sold 513,693 cars in the US last year, and they don't have much more room to grow. Both of their factories are at max capacity.
>>
Only thing gay about subarus are

>300 hp
>40K USD

It's 2015, v6s have equal or more hp and torque.
>>
>>13829804
They're actually best selling in Australia.

Mazda3 is the #1 selling car there, and it sells more than the Camry+Civic *combined*.
The CX-5 alone sells more than the Civic does there.

But their cars are also like 15-25% cheaper there.
Mazda's are overpriced in America, not enough are imported, and they have a poor dealer network.
CX-5's were originally selling faster than they could make them at release.

I feel like once that new RX-7 comes out, almost half their sales will be in Australia alone.
>>
>>13829867
It will probably sell really well in Japan, where Mazda sells most of it's vehicles. I think it is a little under half of sales come from Japan.
>>
>>13829828
First off, the STi starts at 35k including destination.

What AWD V6 can you get with a manual? Right now, if you want an AWD performance car with a manual, you're basically limited to the STi. Some V6s have more power, but if you need AWD there isn't an option available under 50k.
>>
>>13829912
Actually, I believe they sell the most in USA, and as of the past few years they sell the second most in "other markets" (Australia, ASEAN, and soon Brazil).
They've been doing especially well in the new developing markets they've been opening up into.

Japan is third, and Europe is shortly after that, then China last.
>>
>>13827937
not just subaru, porsche, mini (pre bmw) and the original beetle, numerous ford mustangs and chevies and dodges so its not just limited to just one manufacturer

That's a different car from the US version. The US never got the GT-B 2.0L twin turbo, our Legacy GT had the same piddly naturally aspirated 165hp 2.5L as the Outback, just with a limited slip rear end and some suspension and steering upgrades. It's a shame they won't be legal to import for another 6 years.

MFW the only competition was the Lancer Evo which is being killed off.
>>
>>13831429
Well, there is new competition, in the form of the VW Golf R and the Ford Focus RS. Also possibly the Dodge Dart SRT4 depending on what they do with it.
The Dart's Chassis can support AWD (as seen in the Jeep Cherokee and Chrysler 200) and it's well-known FCA is working on a new 4 cylinder engine family to power it.
>>
Subaru is finally upping their games where their interiors aren't dogshit.

Their radios/tech packages are really lacking though, and basic accessories (e.g. remote start) are often dealer install. They also like forcing packages, where you have to take the whole thing to get one or two features you want (and a bunch more that you don't), which is really typical of Japanese auto manufacturers.

OP, i wanna know what exactly happens in your 'perfect world'.

Do car manufacturers make a good car, with a good powerplant, and then the next year start over from scratch? Changing out the engine and completely redesigning the car?

Seriously, what is a good example of a manufacturer that has it right in your opinion?
>>
>>13831642
>take old, good car
>1-up it in everything for the next generation

Done.
>>
>>13831603
Lately I've been kind of doubting that will happen. I would bet money we will see a coupe Speed 6 first. AWD, turbo, and cost a little more than an Accord coupe.
>>
>>13831727
That'd be fucking awesome, honestly.
>>
>>13831603
Rumors are 300hp.

Concept was supposed to be this fall.
I'm doubting it hard now.

>>13831727
Would be better if it was just plain RWD and thus lighter, maybe around 3000lb even, making it around 400lb lighter than the Genesis coupe.
AWD just doesn't make much sense.
>>
>>13831787
RWD would be preferred, but I don't think it would save much weight because it is a longitudinal engine. All of the fwd stuff would still be there right? Just disconnected? I guess they could but I don't think it would help much. I want an awd coupe too, the last AWD coupe that was cheap was the Celica GT4 and that was bad ass.
>>

>>13831816
I don't think Mazda's newer AWD is good for rally like the Celica or 323, though. So I just don't get the point.

With proper RWD, and the engine not mounting traverse, it'd have a lower center of gravity as well.

Mazdaspeed3 would be nice as AWD, though.
>>
>>13831816
>>13831842
The Mazdaspeed 3 was 400lb heavier than the base Mazda 3.

I would hope by making it a big smaller coupe, and proper RWD, it wouldn't get fat like the Mazdaspeed 3 got.

The 2007 Mazdaspeed 6 was 3600lb, too...
